The San Antonio Spurs will be taking on the Utah Jazz at Delta Center tonight at 9:00 PM ET. The Spurs continue at the 15th position in the Western Conference with a 16-56 record. Utah ranks 12th with a 29-43 record. Victor Wembanyama and Co. will look to extend their last win against the Phoenix Suns as they start the road trip. In the rematch between Phoenix and San Antonio, the latter won 104-102.

Wembanyama had missed the Monday win due to an ankle injury and continues on the injury list for tonight as well. The latest on the young big man has him listed as ‘Questionable,’ along with Keldon Johnson. Wembanyama is suffering from a left ankle sprain, while Keldon is dealing with right knee soreness.

But on a positive note, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich mentioned after the Suns’ win that there is a 50-50 chance for Wembanyama to suit up against the Jazz. It’s safe to say then that both Johnson and Wemby will be game-time decisions.

The ‘Salt Lake City’ is dealing with a six-game losing streak now. There is no doubt that they will be looking to capitalize on Wembanyama’s absence. But Utah is missing a few key players as well. Lauri Marrkanen (right quad) is ‘questionable’ for the game while Jordan Clarkson (low back) is ‘out’. Kris Dunn, for his part, has been suspended following an altercation with the Rockets’ Jabari Smith Jr. on March 23.

Spurs vs Jazz: Expected lineup

Expected Starters for San Antonio Spurs: Tres Jones, Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, Jeremy Sochan, and Victor Wembanyama

Expected Starters for Utah Jazz: Keyonte George, Collin Sexton, Taylor Hendricks, Lauri Markkanen, and John Collins.

Victor Wembanyama’s glorious stats unveiled

This is just his first season with the NBA and Victor Wembanyama is already making waves with his elite skills. He’s averaging 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game this season. The 7’4 forward is leading the team in both points and assists. But aside from that, other factors speak to the Spurs rookie’s hype.

Victor Wembanyama is the first player to average 25 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks per 36 minutes. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the only other player to achieve such averages per 36 since blocks have been tracked. He averaged 25 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks in the 1976-77 season. The ‘Extraterrestrial’ also has 79 more blocks (217) than personal fouls (138) this season. It’s a huge differential for a player who’s played a minimum of 500 minutes, say in the last 20 seasons.

Aside from this, Wemby is the second player in league history to have 200 blocks and 100 threes in a season. More specifically, he knocked down 105 three-pointers and 217 blocks in the 2023-24 season. The only other player to do so was Raef LaFrentz in 2001-02. Interestingly, he had achieved that milestone in 18 fewer games when the Spurs played against Denver (15 March).
