Is Giannis' loyalty to the Bucks a blessing or a curse for Milwaukee's future success?

It’s trouble in the Cream City and the first man in the firing line is Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks stalwart and his team has started off the season in the most wretchedly possible way. Ahead of their clash with the Knicks, the Bucks are 2-6 and trade rumors surrounding Giannis isn’t helping Doc Rivers’ cause. But a fresh update has emerged that can calm a lot of nerves, even for someone from the Bay Area.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has confirmed that the Bucks are exploring trade options, but he also noted that Giannis is not part of those discussions. “The concept of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo reaching the trade market is ripe for rumors and trade machine computations, but it’s not a reality as of now for Antetokounmpo or the Bucks,” the Insider mentioned.

Windy further stated that multiple teams have approached Milwaukee’s front office lately to call shotgun on the Greek offensive center “but those are incoming calls, not outgoing and it’s likely to remain that way,” he added.

The update is certainly a relief to the Dubs youngster Brandin Podziemski. The Warriors have been linked to the Giannis trade in recent weeks and who’s a better trade piece from the Bucks’ point of view than Podziemski. Though the Golden State’s general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. previously assured the combo guard, “You don’t have anything to worry about. You’re a priority here,” a trade like the Greek Freak’s is not something they would have overlooked especially now that they are looking for a big trade.

Giannis signed a supermax contract worth $228 million in December 2020, tying him to the franchise for five years. In 2023, he extended the deal for three more years at $186 million, ensuring his commitment to the Bucks through the 2027-28 season.

With the rumor mill spinning in full force, a lot of views regarding the Giannis situation popped out. You can add another to the list of growing takes as a former NBA star shared his two cents on the matter.

Former NBA star chimes in on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s desire for trade

Before the regular season commenced, Giannis disclosed, “If we don’t win a championship, I might get traded” according to The Athletic. Given the Bucks’ early struggles with a 2-6 record, the chances of a title this season are looking slimmer, which gave rise to the “T” rumors. However, former guard Lou Williams reminded the 29-year-old about the changes he had requested, which the Bucks have followed so leaving right after the moves doesn’t appear logical to him.

“Giannis wanted Dame Lillard. Giannis put them against the gun and asked. He said, yo. For us to be competitive, we gotta beef this roster up. We’re seeing teams make moves around the league.” Lou said on Run It Back. “He asked for this trade. Coaching change. He was a he was a part of the coaching change.” So, Lou asked Giannis where is he going now after the changes were made as per his wish.

Since Giannis has previously teased that if things don’t go to the championship route, he might as well look for pastures anew. Will that be within the trade window? That’s one of the biggest questions if not the biggest one in the NBA right now.
