The Golden State Warriors are looking at the championship window inching closer each day, as the front office devises new plans to find the team’s saving grace. The front office is aware that Stephen Curry is an integral piece of their plan, but they’re also aware that not having a second superstar is definitely tormenting the Warriors’ chances. With the team now stuck in the twelfth place in the Western Conference, the decision-makers will do anything to boost Curry’s efforts and rekindle their chances in the play-in this season.
Amid all the commotion, Curry voiced his concerns regarding the front office, making any “desperate” attempts that could put the franchise’s future at risk. But as per sources, those concerns aren’t being heard. The front office is still pushing for a blockbuster trade. According to insiders, Golden State is in discussions with both the Lakers and Heat to potentially land either LeBron James or Jimmy Butler before the trade deadline.
A source close to the situation told DailyMail.com, “Steph doesn’t want drastic changes, but behind closed doors, the Warriors are all in on making something huge happen.” So, even as Curry protests, the team is definitely looking forward to pairing him with another superstar. “The reality is very different behind closed doors,” the source continued.

For obvious reasons, pulling off this kind of deal isn’t a walk in the park.
With LeBron having a no-trade clause, there are a lot of moving pieces. “For this to work, so much has to fall into place,” said another source according to DailyMail.com. The Lakers and the Heat would likely ask for multiple first-round picks and expiring contracts in exchange.
On top of that, the Warriors are already deep into luxury tax territory—$36 million over the cap, to be exact. And each of LeBron and Butler’s salaries are north of $45 million. Adding them would push them even further. With Curry’s hefty $55.7 million salary taking up nearly 40% of the cap, the financial side of things could complicate matters.
The clock is ticking, with just a few weeks until the February deadline. If the Warriors don’t pull the trigger by then, they’ll have to wait until the offseason to make any moves. Does the 2x MVP have enough gas left in the tank to wait another season?
Right now, the Warriors are sitting at a 19-20 record, and it’s clear that their best shot at the post-season is through the play-in tournament. With the clock ticking on another championship window, many are expecting Golden State to pull off a big trade. Steph Curry‘s window for another ring is narrowing, and if they’re going to make a run for it, the time is now.
On the latest Run It Back podcast, the discussion turned to whether the Warriors should go all-in this trade deadline. But Lou Williams had the same sentiment as Kerr, Draymond, and Steph, suggesting that GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. can afford to be patient.
Ex-Clippers star, Lou Williams advises the Warriors front office
“This is an organization that’s looking at the long haul,” Williams said. “They’ve won four championships in the last decade. They understand what it takes to win, and so if it takes them to struggle this year and figure out what they’re gonna do moving forward, then by all means, they’ll do that. They’re not one of these ‘hurry up and go’ type of teams.”

And you know what? He makes a solid point. The Warriors have a track record of success that few can match. Since Steve Kerr took the reins in 2014, they’ve been the gold standard for NBA franchises.
While the “two timelines” strategy hasn’t worked out as hoped, pulling the trigger on a panic trade—like for Jimmy Butler or Zach LaVine—could do more harm than good. Those moves might boost the team, but they won’t put the Warriors in a position to win another title this year. Sometimes, the best move is to stay patient and stick to the plan.
What do you think? What will the Warriors do?
