“Panic kind of means you don’t have an answer. I think we do have answers.” Despite last night’s humiliating 51-point blowout loss to the Grizzlies, Stephen Curry assured that there is no panic in the Warriors’ camp. Well, they are still hopeful about turning things around. But that would mean reevaluating certain strategies they have been adamant about so far. And it looks like Mike Dunleavy is ready to do so as his stance on Jonathan Kuminga’s ‘untradable’ status has reportedly taken a 360-degree turn.

As per veteran insider Brett Siegel, JK’s time with the Warriors might be limited as the Bay Area franchise’s early season depth has rapidly turned into a nightmare for Steve Kerr. Moreover, it is believed that Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody might also be available on the trade block. Of course, the sudden willingness to trade Kuminga and the young core shows that the Warriors are close to hitting the panic button.

Well, the Warriors’ unwavering faith in their young core is one of the major reasons they have been unable to acquire a big-name superstar. Although the recent addition of Dennis Schroder was a blockbuster move, reports suggest that the Bay Area franchise also had the chance to land star forward Cam Johnson in the same deal. However, that would have meant dealing away Kuminga as part of the trade package. And Dunleavy was unwilling to relinquish the youngster, forcing him to shift the focus solely on Schroder.

Something similar happened earlier this year when they were reportedly pursuing Paul George. Again, the reluctance to include Kuminga in the trade package led to failure as PG eventually signed with the Sixers. Well, it looks like the Warriors have finally come to their senses and realized that they cannot add a star player without letting their young core go, leading to a change in their ‘untradable’ status.

Can the Warriors finally hit the bullseye after putting Jonathan Kuminga in the trade market?

What’s your perspective on:

Is trading Kuminga the Warriors' best move, or are they risking future potential for short-term gains?

Have an interesting take?

Sure enough, the willingness to finally trade Kuminga opens up several options for the Warriors. As per reports, the Heat is considering shopping away Jimmy Butler ahead of the mid-season deadline, and the Bay Area is one of his preferred destinations. Well, JK could be used as an asset to facilitate that move. As of now, Kuminga is only owed $7.6 million in salary this season and he will be eligible for an extension next summer.

However, he is a rising star with massive upside, averaging 15.3 points and over four rebounds. Obviously, the Warriors would be required to give up much more than just Kuminga to acquire Butler. And that’s where Podziemski and Moody’s availability becomes crucial. Surely, Dunleavy could package an intriguing deal for the Heat by clubbing the team’s young core in exchange for Butler.

Kuminga, Podz, and Moody could join Miami’s young roster and hopefully become the future of the franchise. Meanwhile, Butler would help the Warriors’ win-now approach and boost their chances of capturing another title. What are your thoughts?
