The Kings are going the offensive route and they have DeMar DeRozan to exact their plan this season. Talking to the press, Monte McNair was quite ecstatic about DeRozan’s arrival in Sacramento. “I think we’ve got a chance to be one of the best offenses in the league. I think one thing is it’s going to be harder for teams to guard us, especially down the stretch of games,” he said. And guess who has similar thoughts on the matter?
Former NBA champ, Kendrick Perkins, had high praise for the ‘Beam Team’ going into the season. Although they lost to the Warriors tonight, the ESPN analyst had no doubts about their effectiveness down the stretch. “The Sacramento Kings, in my opinion, have an opportunity and they’re going to be a top-five offensive team. [They] have a top-five offense in the entire NBA. They’re that dangerous! When I look at them, I got a name for them. They’re going to be the soul snatchers,” Perkins said in the latest episode of NBA Today.
If you remember, the 2022-23 season saw the Kings rank the top with an offensive rating of 119.4. Although the last season showed a downhill graph to that (116.9 – 13th rank), as Perk pointed out, they have five men on the roster who can easily bump that figure up. In fact, the ex-Celtics legend has already predicted where they are going to land in the postseason. Along with a warning for fellow Westies.

“When you looking down the line in April or May, they’re going to be a team between 5 and 10 that those top teams in the postseason, you don’t want to see them because they’re going to snatch your soul and end your dreams!” he stated emphatically.
Quite the claim, wouldn’t you say? But the man has his reasons.

“They could end anybody dreams in the first round with the players that they have. When you think about a five that they could have on the floor to end the games, DeMar DeRozan, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Keegan Murray, and Sabonis, right? And they have closers. This is a dangerous team,” Perkins said in a warning tone.
What’s your perspective on:
Can DeRozan and the Kings really become the 'soul snatchers' of the NBA this season?
Have an interesting take?
The ceiling for this particular group is pretty high. Why, you ask? Purely because of the offensive versatility and balanced scoring options they provide. If we were to give you a quick breakdown, Fox excels in transitions and late-game scenarios. Monk provides outside shooting and instant scoring.
As for DeRozan, the man is a certified mid-range scorer and clutch performer. And the Lithuanian center? An elite rebounder, Sabonis also offers excellent playmaking in the post. Finally, we have Murray. His ability to stretch the floor with three-point shooting is going to cause quite a havoc. Put simply, the Kings‘ opponents cannot double-team any player without leaving another threat open.

In fact, Sabonis detailed exactly why the addition of DeMar DeRozan has only strengthened their offensive core. “We’re a scoring offense, and he [DeMar] can score on every level. … If anything, it is going to get us more open looks. The defenses are going to have to throw a lot of attention on him, which frees up everybody else a bit more,” he pointed out.
Clearly, the Kings have the potential to be a feared offensive and high-scoring unit in the West if they so wish. Hopefully, that is what we will see in the coming days.
