Sonya Curry, the matriarch of the Curry family, is the key to the success of her three children, most notably, Steph Curry. Motherhood is always tough. But she never lost that one thing that pulled her through the tough times. And that is faith. Although it sounds like a simple word, it greatly impacts our lives and helps us scale enormous challenges, and momma Curry was up to that task.

With her unwavering faith in God, Sonya not only pushed her kids to success but also made a name for herself as an entrepreneur. To spread that positivity through her followers, Sonya channeled a fellow believer’s powerful message that can inspire and uplift people in their darkest times.

The message came from none other than NFL legend Deion Sanders, who claims to have overcome obstacles in his life by maintaining his faith in God. To enlighten her social media fans, Sonya shared Coach Prime’s Instagram post on her IG story. The open letter stated, “You’ve got to develop a Eventho attitude! Eventho they consistently forget u & never give u your credit GOD didn’t. Eventho u were left out, looked over & ostracized GOD chose u. Eventho they thought u were done God saw that u never gave up. God got u baby!”

Sanders, a Christian went through a dark time in the late 90s, when he even tried to inflict fatal harm on himself due to his broken marriage. He turned his life by turning to God. “I finally just got on my knees and gave it all to the Lord,” Coach Prime said about his faith. Sonya, who also went through tumultuous times in her life before Curry’s birth, found courage through the same faith.

Despite being the mother of three successful children, who have flourished in their respective fields, Sonya couldn’t feel fulfilled. There was a missing part of the puzzle that continued to trouble her. During her appearance in the Jesus Calling Podcast, the narrator invited Sonya to share what was the “Missing peace” in her life.  She revealed that she found her purpose in life through Jesus. That even helped her shape the lives of her kids, especially Steph Curry, who learned his lessons through strict schedules set by his mother.

Sonya reinvented herself after becoming a mother to her 3 kids. While she instilled faith in them, she also imposed a disciplined life that shows in Steph’s NBA career. The hard work and dedication needed for success at the top level are something Sonya trained in her kids, making them less reliant on others to face their challenges.

“I reminded Stephen so many times to do the dishes that I realized he was starting to rely on me to manage him. That’s not going to work. I have to train my kids to manage themselves. That’s what this is about,” Sonya wrote in her memoir ‘Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose.’ Even Steph understood that by continuously training himself to become a good Christian.

“Train a child the way they should go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it. That is absolutely true because God’s Word never returns void. Again, we’re not trying to press spirituality on anyone, but it was one of the common threads,” Sonya said in a recent interview.

Sonya played a crucial role in molding her children’s faith and devotion. “From the beginning, my mom has been a rock of encouragement, faith, discipline, and gratitude for me and my siblings,” Seth Curry, Steph’s brother, said.

Moreover, during an appearance on the High Note podcast, Steph revealed how the New Testament’s Romans 8:28 verse shaped his life. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” the verse reads. Steph affirms that this verse has given him the confidence to overcome challenges. At 36, he could consider stepping away from the game, as he recently hinted. But as long as he is in the game, Sonya’s teachings will continue to guide him, possibly extending even beyond his basketball career.
