If you were to count the number of days without a Draymond Green controversy, you wouldn’t get far. Once again, Green is involved in something controversial. In the Golden State Warriors‘ 123-118 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, Green tripped Grizzlies center Zach Edey in a contentious moment. Although the play was initially ruled a common foul, the NBA later upgraded it to a Flagrant 1.
The incident happened during their NBA Cup matchup, specifically in the third quarter. Green fell to the ground on his own after driving to the basket. As Edey secured the ball, Green grabbed his ankle with his arm and yanked him down. It was first called a common foul but later upgraded to a Flagrant 1. Hence, analyst Kendrick Perkins, strongly believes he should be suspended.
NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins didn’t mince words, arguing Green deserves a lengthy suspension for the foul. The play has stirred plenty of debate, with questions about Green’s intent dominating the conversation.

Green didn’t hold back as well. On The Draymond Green Show With Baron Davis, he called out Taylor Jenkins saying “You [Taylor Jenkins] run into the media crying about a foul that, come on bro, and with your 7’3 rookie. So guess what you just taught your 7’3 rookie? How to be emotional and run to the media about a foul. We big, we big man, you don’t run to the media talking about a foul“. And not just that, he also called Jenkins “too emotional“.
He said, “Who, who’s a softy, who goes out and at some point you hope to think that we beat y’all in the NBA playoffs because he was too emotional.” Green’s recent comments on his podcast are sure to stir things up. Reporters will probably turn their attention to Jenkins and Edey, asking about the remarks made about them. Green even went as far as to say Jenkins would be responsible for Edey turning into a “soft” player. It’s the kind of comment that’s bound to create some tension, and you can bet it’ll be a hot topic moving forward.
What happened during the 2022 Playoffs with Draymond Green’s GSW?
In the 2022 second-round series between the Warriors and Grizzlies, Steve Kerr spoke out about Dillon Brooks committing a Flagrant 2 foul on Gary Payton II during Game 2. The foul caused Payton to break his elbow and led to Brooks’ ejection. Kerr said, “I don’t know if it was intentional, but it was dirty.”
Kerr also explained, “There’s a code. This code that players follow where you never put a guy’s season [or] career in jeopardy by taking somebody out in midair and clubbing him across the head, ultimately fracturing Gary’s elbow. … He broke the code. Dillon Brooks broke the code.”

Fast forward to Game 3, when Ja Morant injured his knee after Jordan Poole grabbed it during a trap. Morant posted “broke the code” on social media but later deleted it. Jaren Jackson Jr. then added, “You know the code. Talk about the code all series at this point.”
All of this could’ve been avoided if Green had joined the Grizzlies. Yes, it almost happened. In the summer of 2023, the 6-foot-6 power forward almost joined Memphis in free agency. Green revealed it himself on his podcast in July. But he ultimately signed a contract with Golden State for $100 million for 4 years. It was the King, LeBron James who influenced his decision.
What do you think about Green wearing a Memphis jersey? He sure would have formed a bond with Taylor Jenkins!
