The Dallas Mavericks under the guidance of Head Coach Jason Kidd, are off to a strong start to the season with two wins in their first two matches. In fact, Luka Doncic and Co. rained on Victor Wembanyama’s parade during his regular season debut match. The Mavericks, on their season-opening game, shut down the Spurs with a 126-119 win, ruining Wemby’s debut night. After a winning streak into the season, the Mavericks are gearing up for their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
While the team is prepping for Tuesday’s game, Head Coach Jason Kidd has been testing new waters with a new venture, that is completely different from basketball. Well, not really something new for Kidd, who grew up playing soccer in Oakland. Kidd has now turned his attention toward the one sport that was always close to his heart. In an unsurprising move, the veteran coach has now become the co-owner of two soccer teams based in Oakland.

Kidd shares this stake with well-known punk rock band Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, rapper G-Eazy, NFL legend Marshawn Lynch, and Josh Johnson of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. These two football clubs have become the center point of professional soccer in Oakland. As a result, they are strategizing to construct a temporary stadium that can hold 10,000 seats. They have generated over $2.7 million by opening up the club for investment from the public with a minimum of just $100. However, for Kidd, it is more than just an investment.

Growing up in Oakland, Kidd always had a love for the game of soccer. For him, Oakland helped him become who he is today. According to Front Office Sports, Kidd said, “Participating in youth sports defined my journey, and soccer was one of the first sports I played? Between my love for Oakland, the game of soccer, and my mission to create equality for female athletes in their respective sports, I knew I had to get involved with Oakland Roots and Soul so that all youth growing up in Oakland would always have a team in the city to support and aspire to.”
