Rap and Hiphop- a sure-shot recipe to get you pumped for an NBA game. Many have followed the recipe to enhance their careers as Shaquille O’Neal, Damian Lillard and Tony Parker ventured into the rhythmic world to play with words. Jaylen Brown, who conquered the court in 2024, is now taking the same route. Just when the flames of his beef with Nike were flickering, the Boston Celtics guard came up with a way to keep it torched. And this time, he is using more than just a few words.
In a recently surfaced video on social media, Jaylen Brown’s latest collaboration with rapper A$AP Ferg came to light. The NBA star is heard rapping the verses of a song titled, “Just Do It”. You probably heard that before, cause that’s the catchphrase of Nike. But the fans deemed the subtle dig on the sports apparel brand unnecessary. As soon as the video surfaced, America made its voice known and they didn’t sound too pleased with JB.

A fan wrote on X, “JB makes it so easy to hate on him.” There is a belief among the fans that Brown isn’t liked around the NBA due to his poor attitude. It was made public by Stephen A. Smith during the NBA playoffs to which the Cs star replied, “State your source”. So picking that up, there’s a general stigma about Brown despite being a fan favorite in Boston.

“If they came out and said this is why he didn’t make the Olympic team, it wouldn’t shock me,” a second fan added. The much-publicized rift between Nike and Jaylen Brown took center stage after his teammate, Derrick White, was selected for Team USA when Kawhi Leonard pulled out due to injury concerns. JB called out Nike via his social media account, indicating the brand played a part in his snub. Since leaving Adidas in 2021, Brown has yet to sign a shoe deal, but according to him, his non-Nike stance hurt his Team USA chances. Nike is the primary sponsor for the team, which has multiple stars represented by the brand. Hence, the joke made by the fan makes sense, but probably not something JB would like.

“Let’s learn from the Dame situation and tell him this is trash before he starts trying to do full albums,” an X user retweeted. The comparison comes as a warning. Damian Lillard showed off his passion for rap on his 3 albums, The Letter 0, Confirmed and The Big D.O.L.L.A. While the three albums were well-received, Dame’s rap career never took off from there. His last single was Farewell, released last year but has failed to make headways on the US charts. But JB can’t be negative before even embarking on this new journey.

Lillard wasn’t the only one drawing comparisons to JB as his Celtics teammate, Jayson Tatum, also caught a stray. “Man. I can’t decide which is worse: This or Tatum’s Olympic performance,” a fan wrote. Tatum’s Olympics run had a gold medal at the end of it, but his lack of game time was the biggest news coming out of the camp. The NBA champion spent the majority of the games on the bench with multiple occasions when he was DNPCD. Brown’s acumen on the mic reminded the fan of the forgettable tournament for Tatum.

“This is not Ron Artest’s Champions 2K better not add this shit,” commented a fan. Metta World Piece won the ring in 2010 and proceeded to release the single “Champion”. The rap song was included in the video game, NBA 2011 and the commenter here is fearful of history repeating itself. NBA 2K25 is set to release in September and Jaylen Brown just might get the nod if things go smoothly for the debutant.
