Can the Grizzlies ever catch a break, or are they doomed to suffer endless bad luck?

The injury bug strikes again! Despite having one of the most dynamic rosters in the league, the Grizzlies finished as a bottom-three seed last season. Why? Because luck was not in their favor as they finished the year with thirteen players on the injury report and out of action. And their rotten luck seems to have passed on to the upcoming season as their young star GG Jackson II has suffered a heartbreaking injury, leaving the Grizzlies’ fanbase in shambles.

While playing ball outside of Dallas during a regular workout session on Tuesday, GG had an awkward landing following a contested layup attempt. Unfortunately, the drop led to him breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. As a result, he will undergo surgery, which will later determine when he will be cleared to hoop again.

Sure enough, that is a huge blow for the team as GG had a dominant rookie year this past season and became a key part of the roster. Despite being a second-round pick, he exceeded expectations and averaged 14.6 points as a teenager. And the fans were hoping for him to take an even bigger leap next season. Moreover, GG has become a beloved star ever since he dropped 23 points against the Warriors and had one of the most wholesome Live TV interactions with Shaquille O’Neal. Starstruck while getting interviewed by the Lakers legend, Jackson won over every fan’s heart when he told Shaq, “Sir, it’s an honor to get to hear your voice. Appreciate you.” So, it’s understandable why the NBA World is heartbroken after the news of GG’s injury.

Grizzlies’ fans distressed as medical professional assesses GG Jackson’s injury

As expected, the teenager’s injury sent shivers down the fans’ spine as one devastated fan wrote, “That’s so depressing. That starting 5 was about to be heavily slept on.” Yes, with stars including Ja Morant and Marcus Smart hoping to return healthy, the Grizzlies could be a major threat this year. However, if GG misses significant time after the surgery, his absence will leave a massive void in the team.

Hoping to shine more light on GG’s injury, Dr. Jesse Morse tweeted about the severity of the situation. As per the message, he deemed it to be a Jones fracture, which requires surgery to heal completely. Then, he claimed that the injury requires a player to sit out at least 11 weeks. That means, GG is likely to miss at least the first month of regular season action.

One fan shared a crying meme claiming that a Hall of Fame caliber player like GG will have his career ruined because of the injury. While bestowing him with such an honor after just one year in the league might be too much, he did show glimpses of greatness in his rookie year as he even scored a career-high 44 points against an elite Nuggets team.

Meanwhile, another netizen was just left amazed by the Grizzlies’ horrible luck. Just after the end of last season, coach Jenkins said, “Fingers crossed, I think we’ll be able to have a good start to our summer with majority of the roster from a health standpoint.” But his hopes are shattered once again with GG’s injury.

And one Grizzlies’ faithful deemed that their season was already over after Jackson’s injury. Although they still have many returning stars this season, if the trend continues like last time, they might be heading toward another failed season.
