The NBA season might be over, but others are just starting to ramp up. The ongoing MLB tournament recently played host to a highly anticipated game, as the Red Sox faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays. Thousands of fans thronged the Fenway Park in Boston, including Derrick White, a member of the victorious Celtics roster from this season. Unfortunately, he may have unknowingly created trouble for the Red Sox after highlighting his choice of seats.

A few hours ago, Derrick White took to his official Instagram account to share a story with his 350,000 followers. It featured the player enjoying the baseball game from one of the high stands of the arena, also known as the Loge Box. The video by the NBA player captured the excitement of fans and their chants as the Red Sox secured a close win by a score of 7-6.

White wasn’t the only member of the Celtics roster that was present during the baseball matchup. In fact, Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, lead scorer Jayson Tatum, coach Joe Mazzulla, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford were also invited by the Red Sox to throw the ceremonial first pitch. This honor was granted to them after the NBA team secured the Larry O’Brien trophy to Boston’s name for the first time since 2008. During the course of the matchup, White proceeded to show his support for the sport as a whole by holding up a ‘Baseball Isn’t Boring’ T-Shirt.

While the player was all-in with his love for the Red Sox, fans weren’t happy that the MLB team didn’t reciprocate the gesture. After Derrick’s white story was highlighted on X, one social media user proceeded to criticized the Red Sox for being “so cheap they put the celts in the nosebleed suites”.

One would have expected the Boston Celtics roster to be viewing the game from high up in one of the elite, closed boxes. Unfortunately, the same did not happen, causing the fan to state his disapproval.

Fans share their displeasure for the Red Sox as Derrick White and co cheer them on

The above-mentioned social media user was not the only one to speak out on the Red Sox’s recent game. No sooner had the game concluded when several people descended to X to share their reaction.

One MLB fan, who seems to have been following the tournament for some time, highlighted his displeasure that the baseball team has the potential to win but the team ownership is allegedly too “cheap” to not engage in acquisitions prior to the official trade deadline.

According to a report by ‘The Big League’ back in February, the Red Sox was creating an atmosphere of disdain after having “refused to spend basically any money all offseason.” The report came after Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was not picked by the franchise. At the same time, the Red Sox reportedly traded away Mookie Betts in light of his massive contract, and did not stop Xander Bogaerts from walking away as a free agent. It is important to note that the Sox reportedly brought in over $513 million in revenue during the 2022 season, and they were ranked 3rd in terms of operating income.

One social user commented on the MLB’s official post highlighting Celtics star Jayson Tatum holding the prestigious NBA championship trophy whilst attending the Sox game. He proceeded to roast the MLB franchise by stating that the work-of-art being held by Tatum will be “only trophy coming to Fenway Park this year”.

As highlighted above, the Red Sox had accumulated a huge operating income to their name. However, by allegedly not bringing in players that could improve their situation, and not extending contracts of their star athletes, they have dug a big hole for themselves. Since 2018, the Sox have missed the playoffs four times, and have finished below .500 on three occasions. The situation seems to be better for the franchise this time around, with the recent win being their fourth consecutive. However, it remains to be seen whether the same will continue.

Another social media user used his platform to drive a wedge during the Celtics’ memorable occasion. By also commenting on the Jayson Tatum-Championship trophy pic, he criticized the player and his teammates by calling their accolade out to be a “mickey mouse rings”.

The term ‘Mickey Mouse Ring’ is commonly used to refer to a championship win that a team was only able to secure due to a low quality or weaker competition. During the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks, it reportedly became quite common for terms like “boring” and “worst NBA finals” to be circulated. Plus, it didn’t help that the Dallas Mavericks didn’t put up a tougher fight, allowing the Celtics to win the series by 4-1. With popular franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors getting eliminated early on, the hype for the Finals allegedly failed to create the expected level.

Another individual downright stated that if the Red Sox win the World Series, then he may have to consider bidding adieu to his social media account.

While the Red Sox can reach the Finals, the same belief is hold held by many MLB fans. According to a report by Fox Sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers, with a 49-31 win record, currently possess the most favourable odds to win. The Boston team, meanwhile, occupy the 14 rank due to their 43-36 record.
