Did Kevin Hart really sway Paul George to the 76ers, or is he just stealing Lil Dicky's thunder?

From the moment their season ended, Daryl Morey spearheaded into his pursuit of Paul George. While PG was always considering this option, the Sixers didn’t want to take any chances and tried to lure him with a star-studded pitch video upon their meeting, which even had an important message from Philly rapper Lil Dicky. Well, the formula worked as PG recently confessed that Lil Dicky’s small part in the video played a huge role in him choosing the Sixers as his new destination.

However, another Philly native, Kevin Hart, recently stole credit for the 9x All-Star’s blockbuster move despite PG’s confession. But how serious was the comedian? Indulging in a detailed conversation with media veteran Taylor Rooks, Hart revealed his involvement in the pitch to Paul George. “Yes, I mean, you know I consider myself to be in the GM offices over there in Philadelphia.” He remarked with a smile on his face, obviously making a joke like he usually does.

But Hart did claim that he tried his best to nudge PG to choose the Sixers by sending him constant text messages pitching how glorious life is in Philly and what he could achieve by joining forces with Embiid and Maxey.

“It was just me just trying to get to PG in some way and I actually couldn’t … Making sure that it’s just fan energy right. I have no alliance to that office like I’m not in the business of the Sixers. I’m just a die-hard Sixers fan. So, once I heard that it could possibly be, or we could possibly have, that’s just me being a fan and that’s having a relationship.”

When asked what he wrote in those text messages to PG, Kevin hilariously replied, “Just texting PG a bunch of Kevin Hart type s**t – like Man, it would be cool. This will be great. My cheesesteaks are amazing. City of Brotherly Love—Stupid s**t.” But even this friendly conversation might have played a part in Paul’s decision as Hart understands how much an athlete starts connecting to a city once they realize that the people of the city are behind them.

What did Lil Dicky say that caught Paul George’s attention?

While Kevin Hart stole credit for PG’s $212 million decision, obviously as a joke, a lot of factors went into George choosing the Sixers. Recently revealing on his podcast, PG credited his guest Lil Dicky for influencing his decision through the pitch video that the Sixers showed him where the rapper pointed out the difference in value between $212 million in Philadelphia and the same money in LA.

“I just thought, what would be pertinent information? I’m from Philadelphia, I know where your dollar goes in Philadelphia. I have a house in L.A., if I spent the same amount of money on a house in Philadelphia, it would be like 100 times bigger. Your bang for your buck goes so much further in Philadelphia.” Lil Dicky revealed the gist of his message to PG.

And that information caught PG’s ear as he claimed, “That video, it sold me. What hit me was the saving money. It impacted me. It had a little touch on me.”

On top of the financial aspect, the nine-time All-Star also loved the fact that all the major Sixers executives showed up to their meeting, including Philly legend Julius Erving, which made him realize how much they wanted him. And there was also the opportunity of teaming up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. “Based off the meeting, I did feel like this is where I’m supposed to be. This is who I’m supposed to play for,” George said on his podcast.

So, instead of crediting it to just one person, the actual credit for Paul George’s move to Philly might go to all the parties that were in any way involved in making him believe that the Sixers were the right option for him.
