After 3 back-to-back losses, the Timberwolves chose the perfect day to bring the joy back to Minnesota on Christmas Day. Their winless streak is finally behind them after a 105-99 win against the Mavs and Anthony Edwards‘ smile post-game showed how much it meant to him. After Luka Doncic limped off the court, Kyrie Irving took over for the Dallas side and almost gave a late scare to the visitors. Ant had a theory ready in his mind on the sudden change of pace against them in the final quarter of the game. And that had something to do with his favorite Point Guard.

After returning from the Olympics with a gold medal around his neck, the youngster admitted that it was Stephen Curry who helped make his shots from beyond the arc more accurate. While Edwards may have been greatly influenced by Curry’s 3-point shooting, it is Kyrie Irving whom he admires most as a point guard. The Timberwolves star revealed this after Wednesday’s game against the Mavericks during a locker room interview. Reflecting on playing alongside the 8-time All-Star, Ant said, “I’ve been watching him for a long time, man. He’s my favorite point guard of all time.” That’s not surprising, as Kyrie has been a favorite of many even before the Mavs signed him to a $120 million contract.

Looking back on his early memories, Edwards shared, “It’s just me and my brother, we used to always watch him watch all the highlights. So, like, that’s all we talk about.” Even after four seasons in the league, they still discuss Kyrie whenever Edwards faces him on the court. “Every time that I play Kyrie, me and my brother just talk about, like, bro, we used to sit in front of the TV and just pull up on YouTube, Kyrie Irving crossover. So, it’s a dream come true to be able to play this, honestly,” the 23-year-old confessed.

The Slovenian guard’s sudden exit from the game gave the Timberwolves an upper hand. But Anthony Edwards remained cautious as he knew that Kyrie could have something up his sleeve after halftime. “Luka went down and Kyrie was just like, alright. You know, he changed his shoes and Donte told me to change his shoes at halftime,” Ant added. “If I would’ve knew that, I would’ve told everybody just trap him.” Edwards was familiar with the familiar narrative, “Once when the great players change their shoes at halftime, just know that they’re gonna put on a show,” he disclosed.

And he wasn’t wrong. Kyrie stepped up for the Mavs, scoring a game-high 39 points last night. However, the game ultimately ended with a 105-99 victory in favor of Minnesota breaking their losing streak. Well, that’s not all for the T’Wolves. There’s something else Ant said will help them bounce back on track.

Anthony Edwards discloses key factor that could lift Timberwolves to the top

The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t been in great shape since they traded their star, Karl-Anthony Towns, to the Knicks. They did receive a solid return in the deal, Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo from the Knicks. But it was the chemistry between KAT and Anthony Edwards that helped them maintain their form. With the 7-footer gone, now they find themselves in the ninth spot of the Western Conference standings. But don’t worry, Ant has a solution he believes will help the franchise crawl its way back to the top.

“It’s all about having patience,” Ant stated in the same interview. Justifying his point, the 2-time All-Star said, “Like, I was watching Donte interview, like, it’s a different team. So we gotta have patience to be able to get it together. Like, sometimes it look good, sometimes it looks bad, and we’re still trying to figure it out. So I think patience is what’s gonna, you know, take us over the top of being able to wait, figure it out. And once we figure it out, we’d be alright.”

What’s your perspective on:

Can Anthony Edwards lead the Timberwolves to glory without Karl-Anthony Towns by his side?

Have an interesting take?

Just as KAT seamlessly adjusted to his new team, the Timberwolves might take longer to find their rhythm with their new acquisitions. However, time might ultimately strengthen their squad, providing the depth they need. To make it work all they require is patience as per their star guard.
