LeBron vs. Bronny: Who's got the better game? Let the father-son rivalry begin!

“I’ve done it all as an individual, but there’s no greater accomplishment that will be able to overtake me being able to be on the same floor as my son.” It was during LeBron James’ rookie season when his wife, Savannah, revealed that she was pregnant with their child. Two decades later, LeBron has created history by teaming up with the very same child as he makes his Lakers debut, becoming the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA. The sight of both James stars donning their respective jerseys and posing together finally became a reality during the ongoing Lakers Media Day. Along with the wholesome moment, however, some unknown secrets are also seeing the light of day now.

Sitting together for an interview with two Spectrum Sportsnet hosts, Bronny and LeBron were asked about their recent training session that became a topic of conversation during the recent days. Since the NBA All-Time Scorer had already given his thoughts, it was up to the 19-year-old now to speak out. Although, he would have wished he had framed the words differently. After all, when Bronny revealed catching his father “step out of bounds” when watching a clip of the session, LeBron wasn’t gonna let himself go down without arguing back.

“What do you mean ‘I’m not gonna go there now’, you just went there. I stepped out of bounds? They don’t even have that camera angle up the baseline like that,” said LeBron. “Tell them about the stop I got on you when you were driven out of bounds, though.” To this, Bronny replied “That was a foul too. Slapped my whole arm.” The whole banter was bringing smiles and laughs not only on the players’ faces, but also those who were interviewing them.

LeBron and Bronny have lived in the same house for 19 years. Therefore, they would have had their fair share of practice sessions. After all, people don’t say that LeBron literally created his teammate “from scratch” out of nothing. The practice session highlighted here, however, was the duo’s first one as professional teammates. In an earlier interview on the ‘Gojo and Golic’ podcast, the 39-year-old even admitted to have lost focus during the session, an unusual occurrence. The major reason behind this was probably that while LeBron wanted to see how far his son had come, he also wanted to create some memories.

“When you’re deep in training and focused on preparation, you might overlook opportunities to celebrate and appreciate what happens during the season. With Bronny here, I can take moments to reflect and appreciate the experience,” said LeBron during the interview. “This career has spanned over two decades, and I know I won’t play for another two. So, I need to cherish these moments, and being alongside Bronny will definitely help with that.”

As a result, even if LeBron James ended up stepping out of bounds, no one can blame him. The time experienced together during practice sessions will only favor them when participating in the actual games. And when they do, the Lakers are set to make them and all the fans not forget the moment.

Are the Lakers planning to commemorate LeBron James and Bronny’s first NBA game as teammates?

From the moment they step out on the court to when Bronny makes his first pass to LeBron, or vice versa, historical moments will be taking place during the father-son duo’s first game. Having publicly highlighted for many years how he wants to play his son before he retires, the moment will not only be a big one for LeBron, but also for all his fans. Therefore, shouldn’t the Lakers make the best of the situation?

During a recent presser, new head coach JJ Redick revealed that the management is mulling over plans to commemorate LeBron and Bronny’s first game. There is no guarantee, however, that their first game will be the Lakers first game of the main season, set to take place against the Timberwolves on October 22. Whatever may end up happening will be planned by keeping both players’ viewpoints into consideration.

“We obviously have talked about it as a staff, and we’ve gotten into some specifics of what that might look like,” said Redick. “But we haven’t committed to anything. And obviously, there’s a discussion to be had once we’re all together with Bronny and LeBron, too. They should be a part of that discussion as well.”
