Skip Bayless and Lil Wayne—Is this the ultimate sports and entertainment duo we've been waiting for?

What’s next for Skip Bayless? That has been the question on every basketball enthusiast’s mind ever since he announced his departure from FS1 last month. Having been the face of ‘Undisputed’ for the last 8 years, it will be strange not to hear Skip’s hot takes on LeBron James regularly. But don’t worry! It looks like the veteran analyst has already begun planning his return with a familiar face and longtime pal Lil Wayne. “He was my dream guest,” the vet said back in 2023. Achieving the milestone of sharing the screen with the rapper on multiple occasions, Skip seems ready for a more long-term partnership.

Yes, as per ex-NFL star turned analyst Marcellus Wiley and his anonymous source, Skip plans on running it back with Lil Wayne by introducing a new show in the coming months. Well, it should not come as much of a surprise as the controversial NBA critic made his intentions clear earlier this year on his podcast, “I’m going to do a show with my brother Lil Wayne.” Then, he even clarified that it would not be just a couple of segments on Fridays like the fans are used to seeing.

Following Shannon Sharpe’s departure from Fox last year, Skip introduced the concept of a rotational panel to Undisputed which also had Lil Wayne making occasional appearances on the show. The rapper even sang the show’s new theme song Good Morning which generated more hype around the duo’s partnership. But this time around, Skip has bigger plans- “I am talking about a show, a real LIVE show.”

Well, if you are wondering what the two have in common that would make this pairing great, Wiley pointed out that it’s their undeniable passion for sports. While we all are aware of Skip Bayless’ passion as he has spent his entire career talking about sports, Wiley made a shocking revelation about Wayne, saying, “If he ain’t rapping, he talking sports.”

But more importantly, the duo shares an unexpected yet amazing bond, as they are great friends both on and off the camera.

How a bold Stephen Curry take sparked Skip Bayless and Lil Wayne’s friendship!

Looking from a distance, Skip and Wayne’s friendship seems rather unusual. For starters, there is over a three-decade age gap between the two. And they come from two different worlds. But when you look closer, it all makes perfect sense. Well, they initially crossed paths over 15 years ago when Bayless was still on ESPN and the rapper visited the studio in Bristol. Although aware of each other’s work, they did not know much about one another. However, the hoops analyst was pleasantly surprised by Wayne’s sports knowledge when the two indulged in a conversation about Stephen Curry, who was entering the draft that year.

Have an interesting take?

Reminiscing about the incident, Bayless recently told the rapper, “You shocked me, in a good way, because you said you would take Steph over Blake Griffin!” Well, it may seem like a no-brainer now, but back then only a fool or a visionary would make that pick.

Agreeing on the take, Skip and Wayne clicked instantly and the analyst even convinced the rapper to watch the Master’s. Sure enough, they have been great friends ever since. And now, that friendship is likely to turn into a business partnership once the rumor of their upcoming show becomes official. Yes, many fans expected Skip to retire after the Fox fallout.

But he claimed, “I feel like I’m just getting started.” So, you can expect to see a lot more of him in the future. Are you excited?
