Ja Morant’s athletic and flashy playing style made him one of the most entertaining players to watch. The NBA has marketed Morant heavily as one of the young faces of their league. But, Ja has found himself embroiled in a firearms controversy in May 2023, which led to the NBA suspending him for 25 games. The suspension will cost Morant approximately $7.5 million, as he is suspended without pay.

Prominent ESPN host Stephen A. Smith has called on Ja Morant to clean up his act and has outlined his expectations for Morant in the upcoming season.

However, once Morant entered the NBA, his star potential became immediately apparent. He breathed life into the previously lackluster Grizzlies franchise, transforming their prospects and capturing the attention of the league. But his recent firearms controversy could pour water on Ja’s hard work, as he further drifts into the abyss of vices.

Stephen A. Smith called on Morant to up his act before it’s too late. Smith stated that “Ja Morant is a special dude and being that special dude, I expect special things”.

Smith urged Ja to, “Pay attention. You want to make money or don’t you? Do y’all understand that Ja Morant and the silly decision he made cost him about $60 million? That $60 million is going from your pocket for nothing but foolishness”. He also acknowledged Coach Prime’s message to Ja and stated that “It was a beautiful message”.
