Early prospecting in the NBA Draft gave us LeBron James in 2003 and Victor Wembanyama this year. Cooper Flagg is another high-school basketball phenom who has constantly been compared to the greats of the game. He is the second-top prospect for the 2025 recruiting class and can potentially become the face of the NCAA division.

As the age-old saying goes, greatness recognizes greatness. While Flagg is yet to prove his mettle on the biggest stage, his talent has caught the eye, which gained a valuable interaction with none other than NBA legend LeBron James.

LeBron James Acknowledges the Phenom

NBA players are actively participating in off-court activities of the tournament. Of 84 teams, 13 are sponsored by NBA stars, including four-time NBA champion LeBron James. Recently, a clip of the NBA great and Cooper Flagg briefly chatting during the tournament became viral.

Dubbed as the next Wembanyama, Flagg’s monstrous game came up good against the top-prospect Cameron Boozer’s Nightrydas. 

The 6’8 forward is competing in the Peach Jam Tournament for Maine United. In a recent game, Copper scored a huge 38 Points, 6 assists, 12 blocks, and 16 rebounds. To put the cherry on the cake, he also had the game-winning block and sank the game-winning free throws. The two-way player is just 16 years old and rapidly shows signs of growth each week.

It earned him plaudits from all quarters, But more importantly, it helped Flagg to an intimate discussion with none other than ‘The Chosen One’ himself.

The Twitter world couldn’t help but react to the moment. Some appreciated the gesture by James, while others had a few interesting things to say:

LeBron James has always utilized his platform as a voice for people. Be it community movements or the individualistic desire to live one’s dream life. He has constantly developed the image which today’s youth can look up to.

People have unique takes on what the two were speaking about, as the conversation is unclear.

LeBron has recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Lakers. He has the will to exercise a player option for the ’24-’25 season. Is he willing to team up with Flagg at some point in his career?

 

Furthermore, eagle-eyed fans observed Bron wore a tank top that featured his iconic Sports Illustrated cover and it didn’t escape people’s eyes.

Will Cooper Flagg overshadow LeBron James’ son?

Over the years, LeBron has displayed his desire to play on the same team as his son, Bronny James. While Bronny will be eligible to declare for the draft in 2024, there isn’t any concrete statement on when it might happen.

Despite the comparisons, even if Bronny takes over as the face of the NCAA, Flagg will still have his own light as he is 2 years younger than the star. The latter was also on USA’s gold-winning 2022 U-17 National team.
