Over the years, the WNBA has seen an upgrade in its games with better players and more crowded arenas. With increased spectator footfall, come more highlight plays from players like Brittney Griner.
The 6?9 center of the Phoenix Mercury recently broke the franchise rebounding record. The record was previously held by DeWanna Bonner. The distinction made Brittney Griner a league of her own kind.

Brittney Griner’s another big feat
Brittney Griner seems to be on a roll as she achieved another feat just a day after setting a new rebounding record for the franchise. The Phoenix Mercury recently faced off against the Connecticut Sun.

The Mercury managed to score the most points in WNBA history in a single quarter with 45. Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner both combined for 18 points while only missing a single shot in the first quarter.
Megan Gustafson scored eight points followed by Sophie Cunningham and Brianna Turner?s six points each. The quarter was capped off by a three-pointer from Moriah Jefferson to beat the buzzer.

The Phoenix Mercury shot 94.1% from the field to lead the Connecticut Sun 45-24 by the end of the first quarter. This surely is an amazing feat just a day after becoming the leader in rebounding for her franchise.
A tough year for Brittney Griner
Brittney Griner had one tough year prior to the season. The 6?9 center was detained in Russia after substances banned in the country were found in her possession. That led to her immediate incrimination.

The WNBA star was?sentenced to 9-years in prison. The entire country rallied behind her and wanted the government to work out a deal in order for her release. Eventually, Griner was released with a deal being struck down between the two governments.
