The Toronto Raptors are having a blast during practice. Their new coach, Darko Rajaković, is surely treating them right. But what’s probably more interesting is a blast from the past. An 11-year-old iconic line that had the public in a hilarious uproar for years. And now it’s back, thanks to the Raptors’ very own Precious Achiuwa.

The Toronto Raptors became the only Canadian team after the Grizzlies moved from Vancouver to Memphis. After bagging their first conference title in 2019, the Raptors went on to win their first NBA ring in the same year. Since then, it’s been a steady line for the team. The 2023 roster, though, shows potential. And the practice sessions are proof of that.

A 19-year-old D’Angelo Russell made headlines at his genuine reaction to a Blake Griffin “trampoline” dunk. Griffin was doing a few warm-up dunks before the 2012 London Olympics. And this is when the infamous line, “He didn’t even stretch, doe“, came out of the young basketball aspirant’s mouth. The poor thing had no idea it would make such an impact.

The Raptors’ practice session concluded with Darko’s final call for a dunk, and Scottie answered the call. With a trampoline dunk. Next up was Raptors’ latest acquisition, Mo Gueye. The Senegalese performed a perfect slam dunk that left everyone literally slack-jawed. And then Achiuwa opened his mouth, “Mo ain’t even stretch doe!!!”

He certainly didn’t. The 6’9 power forward executed a neat dunk with the fluidity of a gymnast. Graceful too. Good things are coming his way.

The 25-year-old Raptors forward has showcased his defensive skills when he played for the Pitt. Prior to that, he was awarded the America East Defensive Player of the Year. According to the Pittsburgh reporter Stephen Thompson, Mo showed the award was not in vain. During his time with the Panthers (2021-22 season), he averaged 9.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. His 36.4% from behind the arc also showed his potential as a shooter.

Gueye already has an idea of how the Raptors work, having played for them in the 2023 Las Vegas Summer League. Following that, the Texas Legends transferred his G rights to Raptors 905, from whom the Toronto Raptors signed him on August 1st as an official NBA player.

It’s a good start. If today’s practice session is anything to go by, Mo definitely has the potential to lead the team to a conference title.
