A new dimension of history came to life in the Lakers’ season opener against the Wolves. Sitting side by side with his elder son, Bronny, LeBron James gave him a short pep talk. “You ready?” he ultimately asked before they entered the game together. it was the first time a father-son pair co-existed in the NBA. However, elusive LeBron James moments are something the Purple and Gold have become all too familiar with. Only this time, it finally wasn’t “disgusting”.
Through Netflix’s basketball series ‘Starting 5’, Anthony Davis expressed an unfair frustration against his legendary teammate. “You gotta stop breaking records man, cause you every time you break one we lose,” he told the Akron Hammer. Previously, when James set the all-time scoring record, the Lakers dropped to the Thunder, then on reaching 40,000, they lost again prompting Davis’ reaction. But with the moment with his 20-year-old, the Brow could finally relish a record as a victor.
“This is the first time we had a LeBron moment that was something huge and we won,” he told the media present in the locker room after the game. Sarcasm aside, the enforcing forward revealed the team’s excitement for the landmark movement, terming it to be “special”. It’s relieving that they could fully savor the joys without it leaving a bitter aftertaste in the form of defeat.

Also, it was a chance for them to get over the bad omen that came with James breaking records. Maybe the key was Bronny James. He didn’t directly help the cause, playing barely 3 minutes and not scoring his debut bucket yet. At the same time though, his advent to the game livened up the whole arena.
Every time Bronny James touched the ball, the crowd rose and cheered. A memory they wish they could etch in their memories would have been a three from a LeBron James pass. But this night wasn’t meant for it as the 20-year-old. James missed his only three-point attempt while sharing the floor with his father.
But it was no worry. Anything basketball-related was taken care of by a belligerent Anthony Davis performance.

Redick got in a new system. James played heavily off the ball and off-ball actions took priority. But the powerhouse of every scheme remains Anthony Davis. Against the Wolves, he ripped apart from the pack in every way possible. His unstoppable second half bolstered AD to a performance for the ages.
He supplied 36 points to go with 16 rebounds and three blocks. His presence as a rim crasher became infectious. Furthermore, as the rim protector, Davis stood firm, no matter what was thrown at him. His taking the keys over was something a long time in the making, and Redick is proud of his outstanding performance in the Lakers’ first season opener win since 2016.
“AD was phenomenal,” the head coach said after the game. The Crypto.com arena crowd too enjoyed the electric performance from Davis. Chants of ‘MVP’ echoed around the stands as the 31-year-old began the season with a statement performance. If this is the benchmark Anthony Davis is willing to hold himself to every night, the Lakers can become a beaming force in the league.

As for the Lakers, some past woes do seem to still prevail. Their three-point shooting managed to create no threat for the Wolves. No Lakers managed to hit multiple and the team shot under 17% from three. However, an upside is the quality of looks that they saw. Redick’s system of playing quick and slashing has fostered a unique method of playing. The roster has the players necessary to operate at a high tempo and make reads in a split second. And if that doesn’t work, the one-two punch between Davis and LeBron James remain immortal. See, despite their three point disadvantage, the Lakers outscored the Wolves by 32 in the paint.
While it is a long season, a win against one of the strongest teams from last time is a positive start for Redick’s tenure as the Lakers HC. Additionally, it seems like the nine-time All-Star forward has vengeance on his mind for the first time in his career. Do you think Anthony Davis will be an MVP frontrunner this season?
