Liz Cambage is a center who has not played in the WNBA for over a year. But it is not because she is not talented enough to play but due to a lot of other factors.
Cambage holds the single-game scoring record of 53 points in the WNBA. But in an interview with Taylor Rooks on Bleacher Report’s ‘Taylor Rooks X’, she revealed why she left all of that behind and spoke about her future plans. Cambage said she has even made the decision to leave the Australian national team and is going to represent another country.
The reason for this decision goes back to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when Cambage was accused of uttering racial slurs directed at some Nigerian players during practice. But Cambage denied the allegations, saying, “A lot of girls don’t like me… I didn’t say these things to these girls.”?She even showed the intention of representing the Nigerian team in the 2024 Olympics.
When she was asked why she left the WNBA in the middle, she said, “I am sick of being in abusive, disrespectful situations in changing rooms, locker rooms, and teams. I’ve been focusing on me and I’m finally in a place where I am ready to talk about it. I?probably hit rock bottom. I feel like to quit in the middle of the season and walk away from the team is going to be a bad situation. And I was in a very bad situation.”
Cambage further added that she came to LA with hopes and dreams and being the best. She said that she was told a lot of lies and said, “GMs and owners said that they will get me a G wagon or any car I want,” just for her to play for their team.
