Bronny James’ Summer League entry has many fans and critics questioning his credibility. So far, the eldest son of LeBron hasn’t done too well, still, there are quite a few games to go to. However, at this point, each game brings new narratives around how the 19-year-old is not an NBA talent. And for the most part, he hasn’t proven anyone wrong yet. Yes, he is a decent defender, but on the offensive end as a shooting guard, Bronny is still in development and far from winning the Lakers fanbase over. In light of the widespread public hate on the internet, Nick Young gave a reality check to those who were optimistic about Bronny’s abilities.
The former Laker and Warrior was a 3-and-D player himself. There is no denying that he was a pretty consistent shooter from outside while still recovering on defense. However, the retired player did not see the same in James Jr., as he took his thoughts to X. “Bronny is not a 3 and D guy stop just saying stuff to be polite Bronny can play ball just take them wash ass bad luck Tyler Perry braids out lol .. and play with the confidence of Thanasis like I wish a mf would say something to me and yo ass is cut or fire.”
“Play with the confidence of my dad own the nba what they gonna do to me.. have fun out there and miss with confidence that shit will start falling @BronnyJamesJr,” Young candidly wrote. Now one of the first things that fans noticed was that Young tagged a Bronny James fan account instead of his official handle. While that may have been a mistake from his end, Young was quite straightforward with his words. Swaggy P did not hesitate to call him out after his recent performance.

In the game against the Celtics, the 19-year-old took the court for 25 long minutes and finished with only TWO points. His poor stat line looked even worse when one focused further and noticed he also only managed 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Jaylen Brown was also one of the players to have pointed out the same. “It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the nba it reflects greatness and longevity !Bronny has all the tools around him to be successful I look forward to watching his growth,” he wrote on X.
At the time, the fanbase considered this a major taunt, however, the player seems to have softened the blow, after further saying, “I don’t think so, I think because of his name he’ll be on the Lakers.” This was in response to his rumored better half’s prediction that Bronny James heading to the G-league.
The defense was the only aspect in which Bronny seemed to have an early edge. Now we can consider that he’s playing against much more experienced players, but that’s what the competition is going to look like. In fact, it’s going to get even tougher from here. Yes, at the end of the day, he is under development but there is a lot of room for growth before Bronny can step onto the NBA hardwood. There are still games left in the Summer League which gives Bronny plenty of time to prove otherwise.
Bronny James needs to work on his consistency
In his first two Summer League games, Bronny shot 0 of 11 from deep. Not only that but he’s only shot 21% from the field. If he needs to prove his stance at any point, it has to start from shooting. He is a shooting guard and any hooper would expect some sort of shooting threat from the teen. Now, along with his father and new head coach, Bronny has extensive mentorship coming his way. However, it all depends on how quickly and efficiently Bronny adapts to the game.
One of the good things is that JJ Redick seems to be one of his biggest believers. “Bronny has earned this. Bronny talks about his hard work. Bronny has earned this through hard, hard work,” the head coach once said, defending his podcast pal’s son from the outroar. Moving forward with the Summer League, it will be interesting to see how well the 19-year-old performs. Questions like, ‘Will he be able to step up?’ and ‘Is he really worth it?’ continue to persist.
