“This is messed up.” The announcers experienced utter shock after seeing what transpired during tonight’s Raptors vs Warriors clash. Even before the game began, the Toronto-based franchise made sure to let Stephen Curry and Co. know that they were not welcome in the Scotiabank Arena. How, you ask?

Well, the incident occurred when a young fan was standing courtside, ready to participate in a pregame event. Seemingly a Steph fan, he was proudly wearing a Curry jersey and a Warriors cap. But when the home team realized it, they made the kid take off the jersey and cap, and wear a Raptors t-shirt instead. Sure enough, the young Curry fan was disappointed and the commentators even pointed it out live on air, “Look how sad he is.”

Obviously, fans did not take kindly to the Raptors’ weird treatment of the kid and they flooded social media with comments like, “That’s messed up” and “they should have called child protective services this was letting him off easy.”

Moreover, that was not the only thing the announcers were critical about. In another incident, they were seen issuing a warning to Steph after he had a wholesome interaction with Drake. As the two pals shared a hug, the announcer yelled, “Don’t touch him Steph. It’s the Drake curse. Get away!”

For those of you who might be unaware, there is a popular belief that every athlete or franchise the Grammy-winning artist supports suffers massive failure, hence deemed the Drake curse. A phenomenon over a decade old has allegedly claimed several legends, including Serena Williams, Conor McGregor, and even Devin Booker.

Unfortunately, Steph became the latest victim of the curse despite the warning as his team ended up losing tonight’s game. Drake curse or not, it was definitely not the outcome the Warriors were hoping for. But netizens could not get over the Raptors making the kid take off the Steph jersey.

Although, understandably, the Raptors did not want a participant on their home court representing the opposing team, making the kid switch jerseys left many wondering, “Why not just pick a Raptor fan?” Yes, they could have avoided all the criticism had they picked someone supporting the Raptors.

But that didn’t happen and fans continued slamming them online as one wrote “No wonder Raptors are poverty” while another even took a shot at their maiden championship victory, “Raptors the one hit wonder of the NBA.” Well, the Raptors have not had much success since Kawhi Leonard led them to a title six years ago. And they are among the bottom three teams in the East this season. So, incidents like tonight only add to their misery, as it attracted unnecessary criticism from the hoop community.
