Warriors Center Draymond Green has been a part of several controversial incidents this season. From getting kicked below the belt against the Cleveland Cavaliers to getting called for an offensive goaltend on Stephen Curry?s game-winning shot over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Draymond has kept the NBA world buzzing throughout the season. But no incident was as controversial as the one that occurred in Tuesday?s game. Draymond got ejected from an in-season tournament game against the Minnesota Timberwolves for putting a choke hold on Rudy Gobert during a scuffle and dragging him for several seconds.
A day after the shocking altercation, the league revealed the penalty for Draymond Green?s actions and slapped him with a hefty suspension.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA is suspending Warriors Center Draymond Green for five games following his actions in last night?s game. Draymond got involved in an altercation between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels in the opening minutes of the game. While Timberwolves Center Rudy Gobert was trying to get a hold of Klay Thompson, Draymond put the 3-time DPOY in a headlock from behind. Green proceeded to drag Rudy away from Klay for several seconds while his arm was still around Rudy?s neck. A suspension was inevitable after what Draymond did to Rudy Gobert.

That is a big blow for the Golden State Warriors, as they are already missing Stephen Curry in the line-up due to a knee injury. Apart from punishing Draymond, the league has also fined Rudy Gobert, Klay Thompson, and Jaden McDaniels $25,000 each for their involvement in the scuffle.

Woj further revealed that the length of Draymond?s suspension is based in part on Green?s history of unsportsmanlike acts. Draymond has built a reputation for being a dirty player in the league, and that has caused him a lot of trouble throughout his career. In the past, Draymond has stomped on Domantas Sabonis? chest, kicked Steven Adams in the groin area multiple times, and gotten into several physical altercations with his opponents. His being a part of so many controversial incidents plays a huge role in how the league treats him as opposed to other players.
Draymond is set to lose $769,970 with the five-game suspension, and he will also miss the in-season tournament game against Victor Wembanyama and Co. next Friday. The Warriors needed Draymond in their line-up to succeed in Stephen Curry?s absence. But Draymond?s suspension will cause even more problems for head coach Steve Kerr. It will be difficult for a shorthanded Warriors squad to keep the team afloat until Stephen Curry returns from injury.
