Sheryl Swoopes is not planning to back off. Especially not after Stephen A. Smith went on air and basically called her a flat-out liar. The WNBA legend and the media legend have been at each other’s throats for quite some time now. Unsurprisingly, the topic of contention here was none other than the Fever rookie phenom, Caitlin Clark.

The ESPN analyst claimed that Swoopes’ omission of Clark’s name while praising other Indiana players was intentional. Despite the Iowa alum’s historic feats, the fact that the 4x WNBA champion “accidentally left Caitlin Clark’s name” didn’t make sense to Smith. And he promptly called her “insane” for it. Taking it a step further, he hinted that she was fueling the speculation of there being a bias with such acts.

Needless to say, Swoopes wasn’t taking it sitting down. The 53-year-old responded fiercely, dubbing him a “coward,” and said she was ready to come on his show. For settling scores … presumably. But it seems like Sheryl is still waiting for an answer. She brought attention to it once again in her appearance in the latest episode of Gil’s Arena. 

“He put my name in his mouth. And I just commented and said, ‘Bring me on your show.’ And I didn’t get a response,” Swoopes said, maintaining her stance. The Houston Comets star was referring to her reply to an analyst/reporter who seemed to be shocked at SAS’ attack on Swoopes.

Now we know it might get a little tough to keep a record of this back-and-forth when you have so much else to keep track of. But don’t you worry! That’s why you have got us. In an early September episode of Sirius XM NBA Radio, Stephen A. practically put Swoopes on the stand.

“Sheryl Swoopes went on air and said I blocked her? Lies. She said she offered to come on my show and she text me? Lies. Never happened! …. In fact, I was told she blocked me. And secondly, I did invite her on the show and the video is right there on the Stephen A. Smith podcast… so, it’s a flat-out lie!”

Well, right now, we are at a tie. Smith said that he did invite Swoopes to the show. Sheryl, for her part, says that he never responded. Will either of them ever go on either of their shows? Or will they continue this public discord longer? Definitely a waiting game.
