Comparing different eras, players from multiple timelines, or the most dominant dynasties in history are some of the most frequently discussed topics among NBA fans. However, fans are not the only ones intrigued by these debates. As it turns out, Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal and Warriors legend Draymond Green did not waste much time comparing their legendary Championship squads and determining which team would come out on top. The discussion led to Shaq facing a brutal realization which even left Stephen Curry chuckling.
Making an appearance on Shaq’s The Big Podcast, Dray was asked by the Lakers legend who he thinks would win between the Shaq and Kobe’s Lakers vs. the Warriors dynasty. Doubling down on the question, Shaq asked, “Who the f**k guarding me?” While Green knew that one player wouldn’t be enough to guard Diesel, he claimed the Warriors had defensive schemes to affect his game and reduce his productivity. Forcing Shaq to go to his weak spot, which is shooting, Dray believed they could contain him while Steph and Klay dominated the other Lakers on the court.

In that case, Shaquille O’Neal revealed he would tell Derek Fisher to make the Splash Brothers drive to the lane where Big Diesel would lay them out with a hard foul. Then, backing his teammates, Draymond claimed, “Hey, then we gotta fight!”
Not shying away, the legend was ready to take on the fight. But the Warrior reminded him that if both of them got ejected because of the fight, it would hurt Shaq’s team more than GSW because he was a more valuable player. Realizing his mistake, Shaq quickly backtracked, “So, I guess we not gonna fight then.”

And his statement not only left both stars in splits but also Steph, who commented on the video soon after it got posted, “😂😂😂😂😂 ‘Guess we ain’t gone fight then!’”
Shaquille O’Neal would not be the Warriors’ only problem
While Draymond had a decent explanation for how the Warriors would handle the Shaq situation if they faced the three-peat Lakers, there was another problem the Warriors would have had to find the solution to. A budding superstar who was just entering his prime at that time, Shaq was accompanied by Kobe, who was pivotal in the Lakers’ Championship run from 2000-02. As the second-best player on the squad, Kobe averaged over twenty points in all three title runs and became practically unguardable by the second year. During the 2001 playoff run, when the Lakers lost only one game throughout the postseason, Kobe averaged nearly thirty points to lead his team to a title.

So, when Shaquille O’Neal posed the question, “Who guarding Kobe?”, Draymond saying “Klay” made the Lakers legend shake his head in disappointment. Maybe because he understood how difficult a challenge guarding Kobe would be for Klay. Yes, Klay is one of the greatest shooters in league history and before his injuries, was also a decent defensive player who helped his team win multiple times. However, guarding Kobe in his prime was a different animal in itself.
Not only was he a natural scorer, but his killer mentality and competitive nature are admired even today and Klay might not have been up for that challenge. Who do you think would have won between the two legendary teams?
