Shaq backing Draymond in Paris—Is this the ultimate power move or just a friendly gesture?

Rudy Gobert hasn’t had the best of times in the Paris Olympics. The campaign started with much anticipation about his pair-up with Victor Wembanyama. However, it slowly died down because of the big man’s foul trouble. Eventually, Vincent Collet reduced his minutes on the court to single digits, which prompted a barrage of trolls. On top of it, the team lost in the Finals against Team USA. Adding salt to his injury, Draymond Green joined hands with Shaq to troll the big man again after his awkward moment on the court.

While Gobert played less than 9 minutes in the two games before the Final, he played 12 minutes in the Showdown. The 4x NBA DPOY not only made an impact on the floor but also had a few embarrassing moments. Notably, the 7 ‘1 star’s Minnesota teammate, Anthony Edwards sunk a three-pointer over him and trash-talked his way back to the defense corner. However, the headlining embarrassing moment involving LeBron James and Joel Embiid also went viral.

During a play, Rudy Gobert attempted to bait a foul call, where it seemed like the French big man intentionally wrapped his hands around Team USA’s Center’s knees while sitting on the court. This move instantly left King James and The Process giving a ‘weirded-out’ expression. Following that, Shaq shared the video clip on IG, adding himself to the cut version, giving out a similar expression as King James, after removing his shades. He captioned the video, “What this move called,” inviting answers from his followers.

Hours later, Draymond Green re-shared Shaq’s post on his IG story with a flurry of laughing emojis. Green and Shaq have been behind Rudy Gobert for almost throughout the Paris Olympics. In fact, many in the hoops community believe that the Warrior only traveled to Paris to closely observe and criticize his rival and his performance, amid supporting Team USA. Dray confirmed the rumors when he said, “I’m going. No, straight up, I’m going. I need to talk to Rudy Gobert. I’m this close to wearing both of my gold medals.”

Following Gobert’s underwhelming performance against Brazil, Big Diesel shared a meme involving the French big man edited as a Walmart cashier with the caption, “Rudy Gobert if he wasn’t 7′ 1”. Since when is this game of verbal ping-pong going on?

When did the Rudy Gobert trolling begin?

Have an interesting take?

The 2024 postseason wasn’t really a pleasant experience for Rudy Gobert. And it’s not only about the Minnesota Timberwolves’ playoff crash at the end. Following his 4th DPOY award, the big man had a lot of eyes on him. The NBA world wasn’t showing any mercy to the flaws in the star’s defensive abilities. Especially with Draymond Green joining the TNT crew for the postseason coverage, they constantly went after the big man.

Moreover, Green, who has already had an on-court physical altercation with Gobert, didn’t seem to back down after the postseason. It continued into the Olympics and after Rudy’s ‘surgery’ fiasco, when the player and his head coach gave contrasting statements. “To be taken out of the lineup on any other team in the Olympics as an NBA player, not named Team USA, is kind of crazy,” Draymond reacted.

He continued, “According to Rudy, it’s because of his finger. We don’t know what is true. I don’t think we have any reason to believe Rudy is lying except for the coach saying that it was for matchups.”

On the other hand, Shaq has a long-standing beef with the Wolves’ center. Fans witnessed both giants going after each other in 2022. During an episode of Big Podcast with Shaq, the Lakers’ legend took a dig at the French man, claiming that Rudy can’t guard him.

While the video clip went viral, the 4x DPOY replied in the IG comments, writing, “I would lock his a** up.” Since then, the beef has just kept going, irrespective of anything. Heading into the fresh NBA season, fans are expecting more coming out from the legend.
