The Golden State Warriors have had an horrid start to the 2023-24 season. The Warriors’ championship victory in 2022 now seems like a distant memory, as the Warriors continue to struggle. The aspiration for a fifth title in a decade appears increasingly elusive. Yesterday, the Golden State Warriors experienced another setback, succumbing to the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets, with a final score of 120-114.

Following the loss, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr wasn’t too pleased with the calls made by the referees. However, NFL legend and popular TV personality Shannon Sharpe brutally rejected Kerr’s claims of poor officiating in the game.

In a post match interview, Kerr said, “I have a problem with how we are legislating the defense out of the game. We are enabling players to B.S. their way to the foul line. If I were a fan, I wouldn’t have wanted to watch the second half of that game. It was disgusting.”

However, Shannon Sharpe dismissed Kerr’s remarks, delivering a scathing critique of his comments regarding officiating. During a conversation on ESPN’s First Take, Sharpe said, “You go get you a player that can BS his way to the free-throw line because that’s your problem. You can’t get fouled because you’re selling for jump shots, and teams are smart enough not to foul your jump shooters.”

Sharpe has identified the root cause of the Warriors’ current struggles. In the previous season, particularly in the Western Conference semifinals, the Lakers exploited the Warriors’ lack of size to devastating effect. The Warriors have yet to resolve this concern, with only Kevon Looney and Dario Saric serving as centers on their roster.

Can the Warriors still win the 2024 NBA title?

The Warriors face an uphill battle in their quest for the 2024 NBA title. Despite past successes, their current struggles and roster limitations have raised doubts. Furthermore, key players like Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins have experienced a drastic slump in performances and production. Moreover, the Warriors will have to navigate through a challenging period without Draymond Green, who faces an indefinite suspension from the NBA due to unsportsmanlike conduct.

Their poor start, coupled with the growing list of problems, a deep postseason run looks extremely unlikely. However, the Warriors’ fate could take a turn with a potential blockbuster trade for a star player such as Zach LaVine or Pascal Siakam. With a stash of draft picks and promising young talents, they have the assets to orchestrate such a significant trade. If given a chance, the Warriors should make such a trade, and provide Steph with a fighting chance for another title challenge.
