Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's baby photo: Is this the most heartwarming NBA moment of the year?

‘Playoff Baby.’ That’s how many described Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and long-time girlfriend, Hailey Summer’s firstborn when the couple announced the birth of their son. Ares Alexander was born on April 25, 2024. And his father and the OKC Thunder were smack in the middle of a first-round playoff series against the New Orleans Pelicans. See why little Ares got the nickname?

Thankfully for SGA, his son arrived ahead of Game 3, so he was present for the birth and made sure the new mom and baby were comfortably settled. Given that the Thunder swept the Pelicans 4-0, it once again provided the new father some quality time with his now family of three.

And with the offseason providing even more time for Shai to bond with the little guy, Summers decided to give us fans a little glimpse into some adorable father-son moments. “Almost 4 months with our little man 🥹🥰,” she captioned the post. Sharing it on his Instagram story, the OKC superstar, though, kept it simple with two emojis“❤️🤞🏾”.

Needless to say, the comment section started flooding with enthusiastic fans over the moon with joy. This was after all the first series of photos since Ares’ birth. While some showcased pure happiness at getting to see Oklahoma’s ‘playoff baby,’ others were already predicting his future.

The four-month-old of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might have already secured an NBA future, at least per fans

“Sam Presti just offered him a contract,” one fan hilariously commented. In all honesty, it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Little Ares has elite athletic genes. A basketball father and a soccer mom are certainly an insane combination. Ares’s mother, Hailey, was a college soccer player at the University of Albany, captaining her team from 2018 to 2021. She also led her team to a championship in 2018. Interestingly, Summers played basketball in high school but opted to focus completely on soccer at college.

Replying with an equally powerful comment was this next fan. And we have to give the guy his flowers for such foresight. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the okc have a 2044 first round protected pick.” We wouldn’t be either.

This user seems to be interested in another factor, though. “Little man gonna be 6’5 at 13 😭😭,” he commented. That sure is a tall prediction. The 26-year-old Canadian star stands at 6’6 and Hailey is 5’10. There’s no doubt that their son will be tall, but to be 6’5 at 13; well, that’s an overstatement to be sure. But we get the idea. The kid’s going to be tall.

Yet another had one of the most creative comments in the section. “Incoming 6’6 demigod.” Quite a fitting description, considering his name is Ares. In Greek mythology, Ares is the God of War, and the son of Zeus, who is the God of Thunder. See how it comes together beautifully? However, the 2x All-Star clarified that the whole Greek mythology never factored into picking their son’s name. “We just liked the name Ares.”

On a different note, though, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hasn’t been ever called the ‘God of Thunder,’ like how Steph Curry is dubbed the ‘Bay Area God,’ but it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch, really.

And finally, little Ares’ uncle, Thomasi Gilgeous-Alexander commented, “Angel.” No doubt that he is!

Well, what is your take on SGA’s son? Think Presti will be keeping a close watch? Share your thoughts in the comments.
