Jaylen Brown sent shockwaves through the hoops community after he signed the richest contract in NBA history. The Boston Celtics star wing inked a five-year supermax extension that will pay him $304 million. However, it looks like his teammate Jayson Tatum is now eyeing a similar $300,000,000 deal. The Celtics chose Tatum as the No. 3 draft pick at the 2017 NBA Draft, and he soon established himself as the franchise’s marquee player. After his rookie contract with the Celtics ended, Tatum signed a max five-year, $163,000,300 deal with the Celtics. The Duke alum will now soon be eligible for a supermax extension worth more than his teammate Jaylen Brown.

However, the Celtics forward was recently spotted in a star-studded event partying with the likes of millionaire Tom Brady and James Harden’s teammates.

Jayson Tatum’s current max five-year $163,000,300 contract allows him a player option in 2025-26 for $37,096,620. However, since Tatum has made first-team All-NBA the last two seasons, it makes him eligible for a supermax extension. Therefore, he can decline his extension next season and instead sign a five-year supermax extension.

To be eligible for a supermax extension, a player should have completed at least seven years in the league and should be named to an All-NBA team either the previous season or two seasons prior. Tatum will be playing his seventh season in the league and has made the All-NBA First Team in the last two seasons. Therefore, the 25YO forward will be eligible for a five-year, $318 million contract next offseason.
