The Curry Brand Tour attracted a lot of attention from Stephen Curry‘s fans in China. At this point, Chinese basketball fans are having a blast! The Jordan Tour, featuring Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, Paolo Banchero, and Zion Williamson recently ended, as the three interacted with fans around the country. Moreover, Kyrie Irving was just recently spotted casually walking in the streets of China. However, none of the hype compared to Steph Curry’s Curry Brand tour.
Now, the main purpose of this tour was the opening of Curry Brand’s very first store. Curry and Fox attended the events that followed the store’s opening. However, Steph and Co. were to travel to Xi’an for the three-point contest event. Unfortunately, Xi’an officials canceled the event. But why would they do that? Well, fans crowded the Ritz-Carlton Hotel after it was confirmed that public activities were canceled.

This led to fans storming the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where Curry was expected to stay, and other hotels too. Due to the large gathering, the city officials canceled the event, as Curry then flew to Shenyang. The tour featured events in six cities including Xi’an. One of the reasons fans came to know about Steph’s visit to Xi’an was through Under Armour’s post on Instagram that had the names of the cities censored. Not only that but fans in Xi’an missed a major event.
Jason Archer, the managing director of Under Armour APAC conveyed that there will be a second store opening. As you might expect, this store opening was to be in Xi’an. Moreover, the second Curry Brand store was adjacent to an Under Armour store. This could have been a huge event in Xi’an. However, Under Armour had to cancel all events, missing out on a potential opportunity to promote the brand. But what was the real reason behind this?

For starters, the fan gathering exceeded the security’s expectations. On the other hand, the location of the hotel was also a problem. Its location was near a metro station from where people commute to work. This would add even more crowd outside the hotel, making it tougher for the security teams to escort NBA players into the hotel. “In addition, there are various companies and schools near this hotel, and the number of people is even more uncontrollable,” according to LetsGoWarriors. Unfortunately, fans in Xi’an weren’t able to witness Steph cut the ribbons to the second Curry Brand store. Nevertheless, Curry and Fox enjoyed the rest of the tour.
The two even played a table tennis game, as fans finally got to see Curry try his hand at ping pong. Not only that, but they even played a friendly game where they coached their selected teams, as Fox got the last laugh on Steph. It will be interesting to see Curry Brand travel to the States as fans anticipate the first-ever retail store in the US.
