The Boston Celtics have done it again! After missing out on reaching the pivotal stage last season, the franchise recorded its 4th consecutive win against Indiana to head to the NBA Finals. To secure their 18 Championship ring, the Cs will next face the winner of the ongoing WCF. However, since the Mavs hold a 3-win lead, fans over at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse knew what to expect. This allowed them to not waste any time to kick off the rivalry by taking a shot at Kyrie Irving.

An enthusiastic crowd was seen taking to the streets of Boston and chanting “F**k Kyrie”. With the majority of the crowd donning at least one item of green, it didn’t take the skills of Sherlock Holmes to figure out to whom their allegiance belonged. Kai, who is the Mavs second highest average scorer, behind Luka Doncic, has not received a positive outlook from Boston citizens for quite some time now. This hostility began back in 2019.

When the shooting guard left the Celtics after two seasons to put his name forward for free agency. This move would take him to the Brooklyn Nets. Just like the hostility that developed after LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston fans were not happy that the player left his team to hang out to dry.

The hatred for the 8x NBA All-Star only grew, as the hostility between him and Celtics fans became a thing of public knowledge. In 2021, as the Nets had their first-round series against the Celtics, the crowd united in booing Kyrie Irving whenever the ball would come into his possession.

In 2022, during a matchup against his former team at the TD Garden arena, the player briefly pointed a middle finger at the crowd after firing an impressive two-pointer. Even Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert seem to have a lowkey rivalry when compared to Irving and Celtics fans.

Big Perk doesn’t want to mess with Kyrie Irving in the NBA Finals

There is a good chance that within the next 24 hours, Dallas will qualify for the NBA Finals for the first time since the 2010-11 season. In such a situation, any game that will be held at the TD Garden in Boston is expected to have a variety of hostility directed toward Kyrie Irving. The above clip just confirms that.

Knowing how distracting such a situation can be, Kendrick Perkins chose to make an appeal to the NBA fans. The 39-year-old, on ‘The Stephen A Smith Show’, stated, “OK, boo him (Irving), do whatever you want. But please, I’m warning you guys, do not take it over. Leave him alone”.

While normal jeering and booing are common in NBA games, Perkins does not want it to go to such an extent that fans would be forced to leave the arena. He stated that leaving Irving alone, who is currently “playing his (expletive) off” and is “on a mission”, would be in the best interest of attendees at the TD Garden.

Kendrick Perkins may attempt to be a neutral party in this ongoing feud. However, his voice may end up not being loud enough to reach the crowd which is hellbent on seeing the Mavericks star go down.
