UNKNWN is the fashion brand founded by LeBron James along with his Akron childhood friends and business partners Jaron Kanfer and Frankie Walker Jr. Established in 2011, it mostly curates sneakers and streetwear inspired by the King himself or in collaboration with other brands. More recently, they partnered with Nike to release The Unknwn x Nike LeBron 20 ?Message In a Bottle? sneaker collection.

They have always been trying to capture the life and legacy of LeBron. But with their upcoming collection, they have opened another door to LeBron’s humble beginnings.?

Going back to their roots in Akron, Ohio

The upcoming UNKNWN Fall 2023 collection is inspired by creating a legacy and bridging the gap for the next generation of athletes.?In the promo for the collection, the model is seen in a t-shirt with ?HOW?S MY LEGACY? CALL #1-800-THE-KING? printed on the back. As he moves away, we see a pale gray, two-story house.

This is him paying tribute to his youth football coach Frank Walker who lived here. LeBron had previously said this about his coach, ?Here is a married couple with a son and two daughters. A peek into Bron’s childhood

Now he may be the greatest basketball player of all time. But at one point in his life, he struggled with poverty and instability. He was raised by his mother, who had him when she was sixteen. She raised him at Hickory Street, which was where his Big Mama Freda?s house used to be, high on top of a hill until he was three. But on Christmas Day, Freda had a heart attack and passed away. This sent the two into a difficult time. They were constantly on the move and lived in many places.

At the time, James was playing on a peewee football team in Akron called the Southside Rangers. He missed nearly 80 days of his fourth grade. Seeing his talent and struggle, his coach Frank Walker offered him a stable home. This is how he came to live at Hillwood Drive. he stayed there for about a year-and-a-half and did not miss any of his school days in fifth grade. Later, he moved back with his mother from where he continued to grow.

LeBron has never shied away from talking about his upbringing. As they say, we are who we are because of our roots. His beginnings in poverty and struggle pushed him to be the man he is today. And he continues to always highlight and embrace his past as part of his legacy.
