He might be one of the greatest basketball players in the world. And, he might be the most-respected hooper on the court. But when it comes to facing the wrath of the home minister (read: wife), he’s just a regular husband. LeBron James has endless accolades to his name; that’s the eternal truth. He invests a lot in his body to keep himself going at 40. However, one of his habits, and a basic one, doesn’t always sit well with his wife, Savannah James.

So, the Akron Hammer is back with another episode of Mind The Game with Steve Nash. In the latest edition, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar spoke about the moments when he feels that he’s aging. At the same time, he tries to catch a sleep, which often turns out to be a bigger problem than it’s supposed to be.

“It’s usually the morning after the game. It’s that first step out of bed. We’ll let you know how old your a– is, and those are the moments,” LeBron James said. “I’m like, what the hell? And this is usually on the road. You know, you’re like, what the hell are you still doing out here? What the f— are you, right?” But, on the one hand, when it’s difficult to sleep after a game, it’s even more difficult when you want to sleep early, especially at home.

That’s why LeBron calls Savannah the “best ever,” even if she ribs him for turning in like a grandpa. “She gets mad at me when it’s time for me to go to bed. That’s how much I love, sleep, and take care of my body. But about nine o’clock at night. I’m like, ‘what time, what time you going to bed?’ She’s like, ‘you’re going to sleep?’ Yeah, like, I am.”

Savannah’s only gripe is that The King shuts down by 9 p.m.. But then, that’s how the Chosen One has kept himself going. Year 22, just to remind you! However, not every day feels like “Yeah, let’s go get it.” Even for Bron, who might come across as ‘Superman’ for many, is just another human – aching knees and all.

LeBron James reportedly shells out over $1.5 million every year on body maintenance. The staggering investment includes personal chefs, recovery chambers, biomechanical specialists, massage therapists, and cutting-edge equipment like cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen tanks. Sleep, however, remains the most underrated pillar of that regimen.

Nonetheless, at 40, LeBron is doing things that seem far away from human activities. Talk about tenacity!

Steve Nash had a question for LeBron James. He asked, “Do you ever go on the road after a game and fall asleep in the last 10 minutes of the flight. But you can’t fall asleep for like 3-4 hours?” To this, Bron replied, “It killed me on the way back from Denver. Oh my goodness!” He repeated: “It killed me on the way back from Denver.” Then, he shared the incident when he truly felt that the tiredness dawned on him like a heavy rock rolling down the hill.

So, the Lakers were in Portland for one of their road games. “I get my rehab and my treatment. I was like, ‘Okay, I have to get my body moving.’ You know, I can’t wait till 7 at night; I got to get my body moving.” Then he got his rehab and treatment and, as always, decided to get off by 12:30-1:00 and catch the first bus. And, this bus is usually three and a half hours before the 7’0 clock game. Setting the alarm for 2:30, Bron goes to bed at 1:00. However, when the alarm goes off, his body responds differently.

“My body basically says, there’s no way you get out of this bed yet,” LeBron James shared. But Bron’s body hit snooze on greatness, refusing to rise before 4. Dragging himself onto the last bus at five, he skipped warmups, stretched, and rolled in late—but with a fire. Ironically, on the night he swore he wouldn’t drop 40, destiny laughed and said, “Watch this.”

So yes, even King James has his crash-and-burn mornings, sleep debates with the queen, and rogue alarms. But somehow, he still rises — late, sore, and unstoppable. Because while time may slow him down, it never truly beats him. Not yet.
