“His will to sacrifice for the team is always up. It’s a pleasure to share the court with him.” For Victor Wembanyama, having a power forward like Jeremy Sochan ensures that he has some assistance when putting up an offensive effort during games. Dubbed a modern version of Dennis Rodman because of his habit of experimenting with his hair, the 21-year-old was in the midst of a good run during the ongoing regular season. However, all has come to a halt after Sochan sustained an injury in the Clippers game. Less than 24 hours later, an update has dropped on his ailment, giving perspective on his availability status.
Does anyone else feel weird seeing Shams Charania dropping bombs for ESPN now? Well, we have to get used to it.
The 30-year-old renowned journalist recently revealed on social media that doctors diagnosed Jeremy Sochan with a left fractured thumb. As a result, the San Antonio Spurs player will have to undergo surgery, “scheduled for this week.” This is unfortunate news for the Western Conference franchise. After all, they were managing to at least break even alongside the power forward.

In the first 6 games of the regular season, Sochan averaged 17.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. He made a significant leap from his preseason numbers by going 50.6% with his field goals and 68% with his free throws. His deep-range shots have not been up to the mark, since his attempts were low, with just a 27.3% success rate. Despite this, he has the Spurs’ second-highest average score for this season, right behind Victor Wembanyama’s 18.9 points per game.
According to a report by the NIH, a metacarpal fracture can keep an athlete away from playing on a professional level for a maximum of 57 days (if opted for surgery) and 26 days (without surgery). Kyle Lowry, who suffered a left thumb injury back in 2019, wasn’t too concerned about the ailment.

However, he too had to undergo treatment and wasn’t set to be re-evaluated for another two weeks. Therefore, there is a good chance that Jeremy Sochan also meets the same fate. If they extend the hooper’s period of absence, then it certainly won’t help the goals that Wemby has set for his team.

Can the Spurs survive without Sochan, or is their playoff dream already shattered?

Victor Wembanyama is willing to roll the playoff dice with Jeremy Sochan and Co: “Reach them and experiment”
Before meeting the LA Clippers at the Intuit Dome, Victor Wembanyama discussed the future of the Spurs with reporters. Despite holding a 3-3 record, the team was in a much better condition when compared to the previous seasons. Being in the early stages, the 7-foot-4 center was still not too confident about the postseason. Therefore, he revealed, “I think the playoffs is still something that’s unknown to me.” This gave him all the more reason to try new things with his teammates, as Wemby added, “So I definitely want to want to reach them and experiment. I think it’s the next step in our whole development as a team.”

According to GiveMeSport, Jeremy Sochan’s “rough around the edges” play style, along with his “physical traits and motor”-like energy, makes the Spurs hooper someone to look out for. They saw the effects of Sochan’s absence after he suddenly left during halftime of the Spurs-Clippers game. Holding a decent 56-48 advantage at halftime, Victor Wembanyama and Co. trailed by 102-110 with 42 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Eventually, they lost. Therefore, if the young Frenchman hopes to see the postseason, a couple of months from now, he must ensure that he has his team’s second-highest scorer by his side!
