Can Durant's Olympic gold erase the NBA disappointments? Is he finally getting the respect he deserves?

Media veteran Colin Cowherd has found the perfect recipe for Kevin Durant. The Slim Reaper is undoubtedly one of the greatest ballers in the NBA world. Unfortunately, something still seems to be lacking in the superstar’s career. Despite his accolades, many fans still don’t keep him on the same pedestal as they keep Michael Jordan and LeBron James. However, Cowherd came up with an interesting analogy to cure it amid KD’s impressive Paris Olympics run.

Stepping into the NBA world four years after King James, Durant has been constantly under the shadow of the 4x champion. One of the top of it, analysts repeatedly criticized the forward over his lack of leadership and his inability to win rings. Apart from the two rings with the Golden State Warriors, which also fetched him 2x Finals MVP, the superstar hasn’t gotten closer to the Larry O’Brien trophy. Addressing all the setbacks, Cowherd made a strong case.

In the latest episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast, the veteran argued that Kevin Durant‘s all-time leading scorer feat with Team USA will “cement his legacy”. Notably, a few days ago, KD broke the All-USA record for the leading scorer in the Olympics, breaking the WNBAthe WNBA legend Lisa Leslie’s record.

Cowherd’s Analogy

“You put him on any team. He got to the finals with Westbrook. LeBron couldn’t decode Westbrook. He made the Warriors the best team arguably ever. Even in Brooklyn, he was outstanding… Then you put him on this team (Team USA), you look at even great players. You put Tatum around great players, he kind of shrinks. Steph has to adjust. Embiid clogs it. LeBron takes a leadership role but won’t score as much. KD works everywhere. You don’t ask him to lead… just ask him to fit. He is the salt to the chef.

Following his unique take to defend Kevin Durant’s legacy and wash off the stains on his career, he further added that fans would remember him even after 30 years because of his Olympic performances. Ironically, as Colin Cowherd hailed the superstar’s Olympics record, the Slim Reaper blew a 26-game streak.

Have an interesting take?

Ahead of the Paris Olympics, everyone expected that Kevin Durant miss out on the tournament due to his calf injury. Fortunately, he recovered on time and played the first game against Serbia. Durant came out with a bang with an 8-9 FG, setting up the road for the rest of the tournament. Moreover, he continued to perform consistently, averaging 14.75 ppg after the quarter-final clash against Brazil.

Importantly, he not only maintained consistency in his scores but also an insane streak. The 11 points against Brazil was his 26th straight Olympic game with a double-digit score. Unfortunately, the superstar couldn’t prolong the streak in the semi-final clash. The forward struggled to find buckets throughout the game and went scoreless for the first three quarters.

However, Durant had the chance to turn it around and save his number in the last quarter. He came alive and dropped 9 points in the intense last quarter and lost his streak by one point. What do you make of KD’s legacy after his Olympic performance? Let us know in the comments.
