What better way to kick off the NBA playoffs than a game at the Mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden? The Knicks began their postseason journey tonight by hosting the sixth-seeded Pistons for the opening clash of the series. As expected, several household names showed up at MSG to witness the thrilling encounter. However, Knicks fans were not too impressed as they had bigger concerns to worry about.

Well, the game was neck and neck from the get-go, as only two points separated both teams at the end of the first half. Amid the heated battle, the Knicks posted two images on X, showcasing their Celebrity Row for Game 1. First—New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson. And second, renowned singer and songwriter Ciara. They captioned it, “That’s just how they roll.”

Meanwhile, on the court, Jalen Brunson was struggling. It was last month that he sprained his ankle during a game against the Lakers. The unfortunate injury forced him to miss a month of action, putting his team’s playoff seeding in jeopardy. Against all odds, JB returned to finish the regular season, keeping the Knicks’ title dreams alive. However, when he stepped on the hardwood tonight, his ankle slowly started giving up on him.

Toward the closing seconds of the third quarter, the star guard literally fell to his knees during a play because of his hurt ankle. And he spent majority of the night limping up and down the floor. Adding to the concerns, the Knicks lost their halftime two-point lead in the same quarter and it looked like the game was slipping away.

They trailed by eight points at the end of the third. Obviously, fans got concerned and were not pleased with the Knicks posting Celebrity Row pictures while their team dealt with adversity.

What’s your perspective on:

Should the Knicks focus more on the game than flaunting celebrities while Brunson limps on court?

NBA World urges Knicks’ social media to “read the room” before massive turnaround against Pistons

Soon after the Knicks’ X account posted the pictures, fuming fans began criticizing them for the bad timing. Comments like “You are losing. Stop tweeting” and “Read the room” began flooding in. Sure enough, in that moment, no fan wanted to see Wilson and Ciara on their feed. One netizen wrote, “No one cares. Scoreboard.” The rising tensions in the game also led to the two celebrities getting trolled, as one netizen said, “Did they think the game was outside?” likely referring to them wearing sunglasses inside a closed arena.

Even on the post, fans were more concerned about Burnson’s health, “I hope Brunson’s ankle is good! I want us playing each other full strength!!! From a Pistons fan.” Fortunately, the superstar guard decided to play through the pain and finished the game despite clearly being hurt. Showing true leadership, he logged in 40 minutes and dropped a game-high 34 points.

With JB leading the charge, the rest of the Knicks also found the motivation to turn things around. Taking over in the final quarter, the New York team outscored the Pistons 40-21 and ended up blowing them out to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Well, this home court victory could prove crucial later. And now that their team has won, maybe Knicks fans will breathe a sigh of relief and start liking the Ciara and Wilson pics that were posted earlier in the night. Thoughts?
