Things didn’t look good for the Denver Nuggets heading into the All-Star break. A lot of their key players struggled with injuries despite the Nuggets winning form. So this short break in action must’ve felt like an oasis for a weary traveler for players like Russell Westbrook and Aaron Gordon.
Especially Westbrook, actually, because, in typical fashion, he released a cheeky statement to announce his recovery ahead of the Nugget’s upcoming game against the Charlotte Hornets. He made a post from one of his alternate Instagram handles, ‘Westbrook Enterprises’. The post said, “The following statement was released today by Russell Westbrook, through Russell Westbrook Enterprises located in Los Angeles, CA, in response to questions about his future career plans:”.
Below that, his statement simply read, “Brodie back.” What a way to announce your comeback! We expect nothing less from Brodie at this point. Westbrook is in the midst of one of his best seasons in the NBA recently. Even if his stat sheet may not look impressive compared to Nikola Jokic averaging a triple-double every game, Russ has been crucial for the Nuggets’ system this season.

In other good news for Denver fans, Michael Malone also issued a key update on some players, including Russell Westbrook. It seems the trio of Brodie, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon will no longer have their minutes restricted. All three of them struggled with injuries heading into the All-Star break. Russ and Porter had hamstring issues. Whereas, Aaron Gordon had an injury to his right calf.
Nuggets fans will be glad to have players of such quality back in the team. And these players will themselves be ready and raring to go. Especially Russell Westbrook, as he tries to stave off his teammate’s attempts to break one of his records.
Nikola Jokic plans to tease Russell Westbrook for his “whole life” as he eyes an incredible NBA record
Injuries are one thing, they heal over time with the right care and treatment. However, there’s very little you can do when your teammates decide to roast you. Barring a witty comeback, there’s very little that you can use to counter it. And Russell Westbrook finds himself in such as situation right now with his teammate, Nikola Jokic.

We saw it all unfold on one of the videos posted by the Denver Nuggets on X of the team’s practice. In one, the Nuggets players and head coach Michael Malone wished the Joker a happy 30th birthday. But near the end of the birthday, Jokic let us know what his wish was. He wants to break Brodie’s triple-double record. But wait till you hear his motivation for it.

“I’m looking forward to break[ing] his record. And then I’m gonna make fun of him the whole life,” Jokic declared. He’s living up to his moniker of the Joker for sure! Seriously though, if anyone stands a shot at breaking Russ’ record, it’s the Serbian big man.

Currently, Brodie (202) and Jokic (165) are number 1 and 2, respectively, among active players for triple-doubles. But the Serbian drops down to 3rd all-time behind NBA legend, Oscar Robertson’s 181. However, being 6 years younger than Russell Westbrook, Jokic has the potential to easily shatter this record by the time his career is all said and done.
And we don’t foresee him letting Westbrook live it down once he’s done tho. Even so, despite them joking about records, priority number one for both Russ and Nikola will be securing another NBA championship for the Denver Nuggets. And they’ll be glad for a healthier squad compared to what they had before the All-Star break!
