LeBron James had taken everyone by storm last year when he was dropping cryptic tweets all over the place. The topic of discussion – the King’s move to a new team. More specifically, the New York Knicks. When it got blown out of proportion, his longtime friend and agent, Rich Paul, stepped in and squashed all the rumors. It would have been a dream come true for Jalen Brunson and Co. to get the ‘L Train’ on their route. It was great while it lasted, dream or not. But all good things must come to an end and everything went back to as it was within a few weeks. But the question of what James’s future with the Purple & Gold could be is still very much one of the top subjects of discussion.
It is under such circumstances that Bron is back with his latest Instagram story update. It is a photo of Maverick Carter, Brandon Weems, Keith Dambrot, and himself on the court. Shared in his story, originally by Carter with the caption, “Family,” tagging everyone and, “Let’s run it back!!!” LeBron wasted no time reposting the same on his story with a caption of his own. “Definitely would run it back in a heart beat.” Every person in that photo shares a strong and close bond with the ‘kid from Akron’.
Carter is Bron’s longtime associate and business partner. The linchpin for the success of his various off-court entrepreneurial ventures and investments, Maverick continues to be James’ right-hand man. Dambrot, Bron’s high school coach, was the one who laid the foundation for his success in basketball. The hard-nosed coach didn’t fall into the group of LeBron James fans.

When he had his boys on the court for practice, it was perfection or nothing. The tough love that his former coach meted out to him instilled in James the same thirst for perfection. And we have seen and continue to see the results of that. While the statement in LeBron’s story is enough to metaphorically stop the heartbeat of the Lakers family, it most definitely would be good news for Cleveland.
Will LeBron James run it back with the Cavs next season?
The longest and closest relationship probably is none other than Brandon Weems, the current assistant GM of the Cavs. From playing Pee Wee Football at the age of six to being teammates and winning titles at St. Vincent-St. Mary; Weems and James have a relationship forged in fire. James was very close to Weems’s mother. After they lost her to cancer in 2006, he decided to dedicate his first playoff game to her memory.

Another set of challenges came from the death of Weems’ sister Ericka in 2020. She was found dead in her home. Despite conducting investigations, the cops didn’t uncover any foul play. Just months later, his father also passed away. It was a year of heavy losses for Brandon and Bron.

Aside from winning titles as teenagers, the two of them got together for the Cavs’ championship in 2016. It’s clear that if there is anyone who can bring James back to Cleveland, it would be Brandon Weems. Of course, Weems wouldn’t dream of using his friendship to influence LeBron’s decision. But with the impending free agency, Bronny’s NBA draft, and a lot more, his stay in LA is on shaky ground.
