names,Rookie Rob Dillingham scored his first NBA points for the Minnesota Timberwolves in their win over the Charlotte Hornets. The guard entered the game with just over eight minutes left on the clock, with the Wolves having a comfortable lead. The Minnesota faithful welcomed their new member with a loud cheer.
He was at the top of the key, then did a crossover to his right, driving the lane and flipping the ball off the glass for a layup in making his first bucket. This also got a reaction from Anthony Edwards, who jumped from the bench with a smile. Edwards was delighted with his teammate, whom he refers to as his little brother, as he said, “He’s like a little brother to me… He’s super fun to be around,” speaking about Rob. He scored 2 out 3 on the night and even had two assists in his name.

The Timberwolves star penned a deal with the team this summer after being picked up as the no. 8 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. However, he soon joined the Wolves and is set to make a whopping $28.5 million from his rookie NBA deal over 4 years, according to Spotrac. Not all of it, but most of it is guaranteed. Out of the $28.5 million, around $12.8 is guaranteed for the 2025-26 season.
He is set to earn $6.2 million as his salary in the current season, followed by $6.5 million for the 2025-26 season. The next two years on the deal are club options, which means the Wolves could have an option to sign those.
Furthermore, he will become eligible for an extension after completing three seasons. Dillingham would hope he signs an extension after turning 22 in 2027. Let’s look at how Minnesota acquired Rob Dillingham.

How did the Wolves get Rob Dillingham?
As mentioned earlier, Rob Dillingham was the No. 8 overall pick in this year’s draft. The Kentucky product was hot property and, by the time they announced his name, everyone, except the Wolves, thought he was going to team up with the French sensation Victor Wembanyama at San Antonio. However, the Spurs had other plans. They traded him off to Minnesota for a future first-round pick and a future swap.
Now, he starts with another star instead named Anthony Edwards and the likes of Julius Randle, also Donte DiVincenzo. He was a prolific scorer for his college last season. He showed glimpses of being a future superstar as he shot 47.5.% FG and 44.4% from beyond the arc. His averages were also great as he netted 15.2 points and had 3.9 assists per game.
