The Zion Williamson trade saga is somehow hotter than the core of the sun right now. From being one of the most hyped talents out the collegiate scene to being the poster boy of injuries in the Association, life hasn’t panned out as planned for Zanos.

As per doctors’ advice, the New Orleans Pelicans are taking their time with their lone superstar. In season like such, filled with mediocrity and lack of quality- this is when your main men step up. Williamson has made it clear though- he wants to play back-to-backs, no question about it. But do their employers level with him? Absolutely not.

He’s played 13 games this season for the Pelicans, which is less than third of their total season games. The Lousiana based team has put their foot down, and with good reason- as they need fit Zion to turn their fortunes around this season for anyting salvagable. But it seems like the writing’s on the wall for the 24-year-old, despite the player’s deepest desires.

“Let me make this clear to everybody out there. If I can play in back-to-backs, I would. Physically, yes I can. But I work for the Pelicans. They have decided that based off the numbers, it’s not smart to do that right now. So if that’s what they feel, I’m rocking with them on that,” says Zion. I feel bad for the kid, you can almost feel the pain on his face as he said that.

His hamstring and his ankle have been his Achilles’ heel this season, with a left hamstring strain in Nov 2024 and a mild ankle sprain in Dec 2024 that’s hampered the season. That’s another playoff position missed, due to a multitude of reasons. Seems like the Pelicans fans have another Netflix show on their hands, as they all they can do is wait for the next season.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Zion Williamson being held back by the Pelicans, or are they just protecting their investment?

RJ Barrett adding fuel to the fiery trade rumours

As mentioned earlier, Zion Williamson has been linked with a move away. Just to give you an idea about its hype- you got his ex-teammate RJ Barrett putting out cryptic Instagram stories in support of him.

To be fair to Barrett, they’ve been buddies since their Duke days. While playing for the Blue Devils, in a game against North Dakota State, Barrett’s dunk and Williamson’s exuberant celebration was captured in a photograph that quickly went viral. It was that photo highlighted by out resident Canadian, who made sure to stand his ground in this hurricane.

Barrett’s not the only one, though. Even the likes of Kyrie Irving have been outspoken about the situation of the Pelicans power forward. “He’s been through a lot, in his personal life and just with injuries. He came into the league with so much hype. I just pray for him to be healthy and to stay focused on the craft and the mission at hand and just remember that it’s bigger than him,” says Unc Drew.

No one knows the true victim in the Zion Williamson-Pelicans saga. Is their treatment of the amn from Salisbury a bit too harsh, or does it come from a place of reason? Regardless, one thing’s for sure- the remaining week of the trade has left us reaching for the blanket and Diet Coke. All we have to do is sit back and enjoy the show.
