Ahead of game 5 between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets, the league decided to award Nikola Jokic his 3rd MVP honors at the Ball Arena tonight. This was momentous for him because of the many achievements he has had in just 4 short years in the league. But then, this triggered bitter memories for a few fans. Many believe Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deserved to win the MVP. The controversy started with Shaquille O’Neal shelling out his opinion that SGA deserves it more than Jokic.
However, Adam Silver, the Nuggets and Jokic are unfazed by the criticism thrown at them, as the Serbian center proudly posed with his 3rd MVP award, the entire Nuggets roster rushed to topple him on live television. The mood was electric for the Nuggets heading into game 5. Silver not only awarded Jokic with the MVP but also shared a few words of appreciation for the big man.
Silver shared, “Nikola, three MVPs and a championship in four years. What a run. But we got a game to play tonight. So you are the NBA’s Kia MVP. Congratulations!!”

“Shai Robbed”: Adam Silver and the league turn scapegoats after Nikola Jokić lifts the MVP for the third time
After the NBA Commissioner praised Jokic, the internet was flooded with comments targeted at the league. On X, a fan wrote, “Rigging everything for him“, openly accusing Silver on a public platform. Jokic won the MVP in both 2021 and 2022 as well. In 2022, the Nuggets finished sixth seed, despite which the Serbian center was awarded the MVP.
However, this year, even after Gilgeous-Alexander helped the OKC Thunder finish first, he did not get enough votes to defeat Jokic. A few fans wrote, “Shai Robbed“, hinting at the above case. While many had problems with Gilgeous-Alexander not winning an award, a few netizens were pissed that Jokic’s teammates were not getting any.
A fan tweeted, “So odd how the league and media have grudgingly given Jokic the MVP, but refused to give anybody any other award. Murray, Gordon, KCP, Malone.” The Nuggets have made it to the playoffs for six straight years, and Jokic is the only one who was put under the spotlight. Coach Mike Malone, Jamal Murray, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, etc. have not got their flowers on most occasions.

In a sarcastic tone, another fan wrote on X, “Bit of overkill for Adam Silver to show up in a Jokic jersey tonight.” The blame has ultimately fallen on Silver now. Initially, it was a few notable voters like Kendrick Perkins, Stephen. A. Smith, etc.
“Jokic could rightfully win the MVP for 5 more years in a row….I’m still gonna remember him as the man that lost to Enes Kanter in a best of 7″, said a fan. The Nuggets lost a 7-game series to Enes Freedom and the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2019 playoffs. The series went to seven games, and Lillard helped the Blazers to win 4-3, which a fan highlighted to mock Jokic. Let’s see if there is a change in the MVP in the upcoming years.
