In a recent series of interviews, the CEO of Klutch Sports has been discussing his recently published memoir, “Lucky Me,”. Which chronicles his upbringing and path to success. During a podcast appearance, he shared the story of how he founded the company while attempting to recruit Kevin Durant.

The legendary sports manager joined Lewis Howes in the latest episode of his podcast ‘The School of Greatness’. The hour-long conversation dives deep into Paul’s career. What’s more, it traces a topography through the timeline of his development. While the rest of the conversation is very insightful, Paul discloses an interesting bit of information toward the end.

Upon being asked how he came in into the Industry, he talks about the resistance he faced from his former agency. “No, there was no thought, but I’m an impulsive guy. There was no, there was no thought of like, oh, this is all going to be planned out. I’m going to do this like this,” said Paul about his foray into management.

He further added, “I was actually recruiting at that time. I was recruiting Kevin Durant to where I was at, to come to that agency. I was getting all this talent without even being a registered agent. I didn’t have the business card, I didn’t have the office, I barely had meetings.”

How LeBron James and Klutch altered history

Rich Paul has been LeBron James’ agent since 2003. They both started their careers together, eventually becoming highly recognized figures in the sports industry. In 2010, LeBron James made a highly debated move in NBA history when he left the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers, the team that had drafted him in 2003, to join the Miami Heat.

Even though he took a reduced salary when he joined the Heat in 2010, his income saw a substantial increase in the following years. Furthermore, James won two of his four NBA championships during his time with the Heat.
