Maybe it’s not yet time to move on from the Jaylen Brown and Giannis Antetokounmpo heat. Or maybe Nike is the only one living in the past, who knows? The Greek Freak etched Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum as his own, scoring 59 points to lead the Bucks to a 127-120 win over the Pistons. And his performance was anything but “childish.” And well, Antetokounmpo’s sponsors thought it was the perfect time to remind everyone of this fact. But did the brand aim the arrow at a particular person?
“Nothing childish about ’em. 59 for the Greek freak,” Nike tweeted with pride. Well, many would call this a petty move, because it seems like it was a direct jab at Jaylen Brown’s “child” comment on Giannis’ gesture in their last face-off. As we know, the Celtics superhero isn’t someone to hold back his opinions. Therefore, without wasting a moment, Brown hit the nail (maybe a bit too hard).
“Y’all got weird energy,” wrote Brown on X.

Jaylen Brown reposted Nike’s tweet with his thoughts. Don’t you think Brown is aware that the kind of game Giannis Antetokounmpo pulled up against the Pistons was anything but childish? Surely, he knows. Then why did Nike think a quick brush up for the memories was necessary? So, it seems the JB-Nike controversy won’t calm down either. At least not anytime soon!

Simply put, Jaylen Brown doesn’t like Nike and its influence on the players around him
It may sound a bit too harsh, but Jaylen Brown isn’t a fan of the sportswear brand. To put it more bluntly: Jaylen Brown does not like Nike for its business practices and the influence it has on Team USA basketball. It seems, that Giannis’ fake handshake prank and the American sportswear franchise’s social media team, JB have more reasons to grow bitter feelings about the brand.
Jaylen Brown’s dispute with Nike started after he defended his former teammate Kyrie Irving. Meanwhile, Irving lost his Nike sponsorship for sharing a link to a controversial 2018 documentary. Following this, Nike founder Phil Knight condemned Irving’s actions. And Brown questioned Nike’s ethics, tweeting, “Since when did Nike care about ethics?” The tension resurfaced when Brown was left out of the US Olympic Basketball team. He addressed Nike directly, tweeting, “@nike this what we doing?”

JB’s frustration with Nike is evident. He has openly criticized the brand’s ethics and influence in sports. Brown’s reactions show his disapproval of the brand’s handling of players and its public statements. The tension between them seems unlikely to ease anytime soon. With more reasons to hate Nike, Jaylen Brown may never seize going all-out on them just the way he goes all-out on the court against the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
