He was the former managing editor of Bright Side of the Sun and a beloved member of the Valley of the Sun. King, at the mere age of 56, fought a tough battle against stage IV melanoma. However, the disease had spread to his brain and ultimately led to his demise.

In his career covering the NBA and the Phoenix Suns, Dave King wrote approximately 2,800 pieces for Bright Side of the Sun between 2010 and 2023 while serving as managing editor. His writing not only recorded the Phoenix Suns’ progress but also offered the fans some comfort during the difficult times in the Suns’ history. Even his nickname throughout the Suns community was “Suns Daddy” as he connected to his fans through his podcast, The Solar Panel, giving them valuable insights about the team. Now, after listening to his passing, Suns fans and his colleagues are taking to social media to express their feelings about the situation.

Dave King was not only a sportswriter, he was the architect of the Bright Side and a beloved supporter of the Phoenix Suns. He was deeply involved with the fan community, donating and helping sponsor more than twenty thousand kids to attend the Suns’ games. One of the Suns’ journalists even took to social media to show his remorse for King and wrote, Dave King forever legend. Rest In Power.”
