The past few months have been challenging for Mitchell Robinson. It was during last year’s playoffs that he suffered an unfortunate left ankle injury and was sidelined indefinitely. Sure enough, he had no option but to get his ankle surgically repaired. Since then, the Knicks fans have been awaiting the Center’s return to action. But amid Robinson’s lengthy recovery process, he has been forced to deal with another major issue. Drug Tests!

Turns out, the big man was recently drug-tested by the league after he posted pictures of his physique on social media. Well, he has gone through a significant body transformation in recent months, dropping his weight to 265 pounds and getting leaner than he was last year. But following the latest drug test, Robinson has taken a public vow, as he posted a selfie on his Instagram story and wrote, “I can’t post basketball and body pics no more I always get hit with a drug test” with a laughing emoji.

In an era where everyone loves to show off their physique, Robinson will no longer do it because of the league’s antics. Something similar happened back in November after Robinson posted an image of himself flexing, captioned, “No, this is not photoshopped.”

Soon after, he posted another selfie, revealing, “Yall called it random drug test” with a facepalm emoji.

Of course, the NBA does not want to take any chances, which is why players are tested anytime they do something out of the ordinary. That’s why when players like Danny Green and Alex Caruso throw down a nasty dunk or when Tyrese Maxey shows up at a presser looking buffed up, they are forced to go through the same.

However, Robinson getting drug tested might be positive news for the Knicks fans because it shows that he has been working hard toward his recovery and is in peak physical form.

Mitchell Robinson is “Playing it Smart” and aiming to not get injured again

The last time Mitchell played in an NBA game was last May. With more than half the season over, there is still no clear timeline for his return. But he recently broke the silence about his lengthy hiatus, giving the New York fans hope: “I’ve just been taking my time. I want to make sure it’s 100 percent, I ain’t trying to keep having these sit-outs and setbacks and stuff like that.” Yes, the reason behind his transformation is that Robinson does not want to risk getting injured again once he returns.

He continued, “This time, I’m just going to play it smart. Usually, I’d be young and dumb to go out there and try to get back as fast as I can. I can’t do that no more.” From taking the right nutrition to icing after the game, he is prepared to do everything to keep his body in peak form going forward. As of now, he has been cleared for contact and will soon begin participating in 5-on-5 practice. So, a return seems imminent.

Of course, that would be a massive boost for the Knicks as Robinson was a key part of their rotation before injury, averaging 5.6 points and nearly nine rebounds last year. And his return would give Tom Thibodeau another piece to utilize as the New York franchise aims to make some noise in the playoffs.

Mitchell Robinson might be done posting physique updates, but Knicks fans won’t mind as long as he’s back swatting shots and grabbing boards. And let’s be real—once he throws down a big dunk, the NBA might just “randomly” test him again, anyway.
