The Golden State Warriors vs Washington Wizards matchup was one that fans eagerly anticipated purely for the thrill of it! Of course, there is the Stephen Curry-Jordan Poole showdown part. But perhaps, the more interesting and much more awaited link-up is that of Draymond Green and the former Warrior. And suffice it to say, Dray did not disappoint.
The duo put on a show, with Poole dropping 14 points in the first half, including a deep three over Green near the end of the second quarter. After that shot, the former Warrior boldly flexed, as the ball was inbounded to Curry. The 4x champion took a few dribbles and launched a long pass to Dray, who was posting up against Poole.
The veteran forward quickly dished it back to a cutting Curry (years of experience!), who faked out a defender, took one dribble, and sank a buzzer-beater right over Poole. And here’s the exciting part.

As the Splash Bro headed back toward the locker room, Draymond Green took time to point right at Jordan Poole. Needless to say, it caught the eyes of fans, who showed concern at the Bay Area side’s floor general starting his typical antics. “Dray wakes up and chooses violence daily,” noted one user, followed by a laughing-with-tears emoji.
Interestingly, it seems that the 2022 champ invited trouble himself. As the second quarter was nearing its end, Poole drained a three as the 2017 DPOY tried to contest the shot. It was, of course, unsuccessful, and the 25-year-old immediately pointed at Dray. And seconds later, when Curry knocked down his three, Draymond Green returned the favor.
However, as mentioned above, it has raised some concerns among fans on account of the pair’s history.
Draymond Green-Jordan Poole’s wordless taunting takes fans back to relive past tensions: “Still tryna haunt that man”
“Taunting the guy you punched into oblivion is nasty work,” commented a user, followed by a laughing-with-tears emoji, the dry humor of the situation clear as the day. Described by many as the ‘punch that ended a dynasty,’ the Dubs truly never recovered after winning that 2022 title.

Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole was pretty much the straw that broke the camel when it came to team chemistry. If you remember, Steve Kerr, who has been in more than enough situations where Green has pushed the boundaries, admitted that the Poole incident did cross the line. “He [Draymond] crossed the line with Jordan, and he knew it immediately. That made the season incredibly difficult for everybody,” Kerr acknowledged in The Dan Le Batard Show in early September.

Another arguably frustrated fan pointed out that “He’s [Green] literally the entire reason he [Poole] left btw.” Instrumental in helping the Dubs win their last title, Jordan’s performance took a considerable hit after Green’s punch. His confidence seems to have been shaken, and he struggled to showcase a consistent outing.
Despite these, no one believed the Warriors would really give up a promising young guard like Jordan Poole, who, up until then, thrived with the Golden State. However, in a shocking move in the 2023 offseason, the team traded him to the Wizards. Needless to say, it hadn’t sat well with many. It still doesn’t. At least for a few.
This next user believes that Jordan needs protection. “Poole needs to file a restraining order [insert laughing emoji] Draymond be bullying that man.” And finally, this fan doesn’t understand Green’s need to irk Poole. “Why he still tryna haunt that man,” followed by a crying-a-river emoji.

Anyway, the 2019 first-round pick did have a solid performance tonight. With three assists, three steals, and a career-high four blocks, he joined Steph Curry for a game-high 24 points in the Wizards’ 112-125 loss. Despite the defeat, Jordan Poole’s standout performance showcases his resilience and potential as he moves forward in his career.
There is no doubt that their future matchups are going to be just as interesting.
