At this point, Joel Embiid can silence his naysayers only by getting back on his feet. And also win games for the struggling Philadelphia 76ers. Nevertheless, fans gave it a try to save the big man’s reputation after an alleged attack. Last night, the Sixers took on the defending champs Boston Celtics in a nationally televised game. It goes without saying, the game will attract a lot of eyes. And fans accused NBA legend Reggie Miller of lying about the Cameroonian big man.
As we all know, Embiid hasn’t had a great time since the start of the season. The 30-year-old dealt with a nagging knee injury, a locker scuffle with a columnist, and most importantly, he received backlashes for the team’s failure this season. He started off the season with a controversial statement saying he won’t play a back-to-back game anymore in his career. Importantly, he not only missed B-2-B games but also several other games due to injuries. In total, The Process played 19 games this season.
As a final nail in the coffin, Joel Embiid pulled out of the rest of the season, citing another knee surgery. So, it’s natural to gang up on the big man for the Sixers’ embarrassing season, floating at the bottom of the East. However, Embiid’s season-ending surgery is already a thing of the past, as the team has played 4 games since the update. In a way, it’s unnecessary to bring him up during a nationally televised game.

That’s what the fans felt after the Celtics-Sixers game at the TD Garden. While we couldn’t extract the exact words from the broadcast, we relied on a fan’s statement. A fan accused Reggie Miller of still sticking to the “He needs to be better” narrative even after the grave update on his knee.
Moreover, Austin Krell, a renowned Sixers beat writer, also criticized Miller’s announcing skills during his Wednesday night coverage. Krell wrote, “Reggie Miller would be a much better color commentator if he delivered his criticisms of players with his full chest. If you have something to say, don’t just allude to it. Be an adult or don’t say it at all.“ Above all, it wasn’t just one fan. A horde of fans joined hands to guard Embiid.
Joel Embiid fans brutally expose Reggie Miller
The 59-year-old Pacers’ legend has made some memorable moments on air in a short period as a broadcaster. Of course, fans value opinions coming out of a former player’s mouth. And if it’s a legend, then those words are gold dust. However, at the same time, fans won’t tolerate mediocrity. So, Miller’s take on Embiid last night had left fans in disappointment.
A fan wrote, “If Reggie Miller wants to criticize Joel Embiid, he should do it with his chest instead of beating around the bush like he’s holding back information everyone else doesn’t know.” Above all, it’s not the first time when the Pacers legend has taken a dig at the big.
Two months ago, in yet another nationally televised game between the Warriors and Sixers, he said, “Now, he’s not in shape but whose fault is that? That’s the player’s fault. So he has to get in better shape so he can be the best version of himself. The MVP version,” while Embiid was standing at the Warriors FT attempt. It’s unclear why Miller repeatedly takes it out on Embiid.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Reggie Miller's criticism of Embiid justified, or is he ignoring the big man's injury woes?
Have an interesting take?
Anyway, another fan put forward an important question, writing, “Is Reggie Miller aware that Embiid likely has a degenerative knee?“ Over the last few days, there were multiple coverages on the big man’s options to fix his nagging knee injury. After looking around options, the former MVP had to settle with surgery.

Is Reggie Miller aware that Embiid likely has a degenerative knee and rolling with the “he needs to be better” narrative doesn’t fit here?

While we still try to make sense of what exactly Miller said in the broadcast, a fan’s comment gave a clear picture. The fan wrote, “talking like he isn’t injuries almost.“ If that’s true, then it needs a look. On the other hand, another fan suggested a drastic step, writing, “Sixers must be removed from all national TV games the rest of the season…” I mean, we can’t blame the fan. After a devastating season riddled with injuries, any fan would get disappointed.
Meanwhile, another fan brought in a new angle, accusing Miller of another lie, writing, “Reggie Miller is on the broadcast insinuating that Embiid doesn’t want to play… It’s all just so tiring man.” Anyway, at the end of the day, it will all remain an accusation until both Embiid and Miller clear the air.
