Another game, another loss for the Timberwolves! After a historic run last year, they have failed to carry that momentum and fallen to the tenth rank in the West this season. And that misery continued tonight as they suffered a brutal loss against the Warriors. As expected, it led to frustrations in the Wolves’ camp, especially for Anthony Edwards, who went on an unfiltered locker room rant targeting the officials. However, referee Simone Jelks escaped the superstar’s brutal comments.

Fuming after the loss with the way the game was officiated, Edwards called out the officials, “F—— terrible. Yeah, all of them. Besides the woman. The other two dudes terrible.” Well, he was referring to Jelks, who was the only female ref in tonight’s game. Meanwhile, Ant-Man did not hold back on criticizing crew chief Sean Wright and referee Sean Corbin. “They don’t want to talk back to my coach now, won’t talk back to me. I said one thing to the ref and he gave me a tech. motherf—– told one of my teammates, if I would have said ‘Y’all calling a bad foul’ he wouldn’t have gave me a tech.’ N—–, they just sensitive and they terrible.”

Then, Edwards clarified once again that the female official was exempted from these accusations and he had no issues with her. Despite that, he is likely to be penalized with a massive fine by the league for his unfiltered outburst.

Back in January, Edwards accrued a $40,000 fine for publicly blasting the refs, calling them “bad and terrible.” This time, that number could be even higher because it’s a repeat offense and Edwards used a lot of cuss words targeting the officials. However, it looks like he is not afraid to risk it, as he highlighted a bigger problem.

Anthony Edwards demands change after revealing frustration about “terrible” officiating

Continuing his rant, Edwards also revealed how he and his teammates have constantly been affected by bad officiating, “They penalize me and Ju (Julius Randle) for being stronger than our opponents every night. Don’t get no calls. Yeah, that’s how I feel about the officials every game that we play.” As he mentioned, Edwards and Randle are relatively bigger and stronger than most players in their respective positions. Although that should be an offensive advantage, it leads to the officials calling fewer fouls on them.

Anthony Edwards' rant: Justified frustration or crossing the line with his comments on officiating?

Have an interesting take?

Even LeBron James has faced the same problem throughout his career, which is a major reason many believe he started flopping as a way to sell the fouls and get more calls in his favor. Moreover, Edwards revealed how frustrating this can be, “Everybody keeps saying ‘Play through it. Play through it.’ It’s easy to say that when you not dealing with it. So, that’s what’s frustrating.” Even tonight, he only scored just 19 points, making it his second straight game under twenty points.

He closed his rant with one final nail in the coffin, “I don’t know what gotta go down but something gotta happen because that s— terrible.” Unfortunately, there is not much that can change as this is how most games are officiated in the modern NBA. Moreover, his rant will only put Edwards in the bad books of the officials, possibly leading to more trouble in the future.
