The NBA All-Star Weekend has got off to a tremendous start. The NBA would hope to keep the momentum going, with the 3-Point Contest, Slam Dunk Contest and the Skills Challenge all lined up for Saturday’s All-Star festivities. However, the pick of the bunch is the first ever NBA vs WNBA 3-Point Contest, featuring the likes of Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu.

It was reported that Steph would shoot from the NBA’s three-point line, while Ionescu would shoot from the WNBA’s three-point line. But Sabrina Ionescu has come out and said that she would rather shoot from the NBA’s 3-point line. During a recent interview, Ionescu said, “The decision to move to the NBA line was something that I wanted to do from the beginning to just continue to push boundaries and equal the playing field… No matter how challenging or difficult that decision seems, I’d rather go down fighting for what I believe I’m capable of doing.”

The NBA’s 3-point line is slightly farther away from the WNBA’s line. From the top of the key, the NBA line is positioned 23 feet and 9 inches from the basket, while it’s slightly closer at 22 feet from the corner. Meanwhile, the WNBA 3-point line is 22 feet and 1.75 inches away from the basket. From the corners, it is slightly closer, positioned at 21 feet and 9 inches away from the basket. Sabrina will have her work cut out, but this decision just goes on to show Sabrina’s competitive spirit. With the much awaited shootout just a couple of hours away, let’s take a look at Sabrina and Steph’s underlying numbers.

Sabrina Ionescu will be seen as an underdog in the contest, mainly because she will be shooting from the NBA’s three-point line. However, if Ionescu maintains her exceptional form, then the contest could go right down to the wire. In the 2023 WNBA season, Ionescu shot 44.8% from beyond the arc. Furthermore, Sabrina set an all-time WNBA and NBA record by draining 25 out of 27 shots in the WNBA 3-Point Contest. She scored 37 points on that record-breaking night.

However, Stephen Curry is no slouch either. Steph holds the all-time NBA record of most three-pointers made, with 3631 buckets from deep. Moreover, Steph has shot at an uber-efficient rate of 42.1% from downtown. He has also made 252 three-pointers, most by any player in the 2023-24 season. It’s anyone’s guess as to who would be the winner between the two supremely gifted hoopers. However, one thing is guaranteed: fans will not be let down.
